Also consider the NEXTO DI NPS-10 Nexto Photo Storage

I used NEXTO DI NPS10 FOR OUR ANTARCTIC visit in 2019 December and it worked great with 2 Nikon dslrs at once. There are a number of old posts on UHH. But it seems to be discontinued now. Ravpower was a backup, never needed.

1) Lightroom Classic ran fine in Rosetta 2 emulation mode on the M1, faster than most Intel Macs! It runs much faster now, natively.

2) I've never heard of that plugin suite. But IF the developer intends to keep supporting Macs, they probably either have made it compatible with Rosetta 2 already, or they have updated it.

3) There is no "write to SSD" problem with M1 Macs, that I'm aware of. There was some initial concern about thrashing and excessive wear, but that turned out to be insignificant.

It's going to be amazing to watch what the rest of the industry does in response.

Thanks so much for your prompt and thorough reply! Now if I could just get a reasonably timely delivery.

Is LR classic optimized for M1 yet? I have jfFlickr plug ins on my 2014 MBP..will they still work on the M1 with the new OS? Is the write to SSD problem solved in the new M1 macs?

Any updates or news on this subject? I am getting closer to replacing my 15" 2014 macbook pro with a 16" m1max.

Once I finally connected with Adobe support, Ravi was able to fix it by restarting the OS and upgrading to the latest version of LrC. I can again reorder in folders and email Photo also works now.

I would still appreciate answers to: Can collections include movie clips? Can you export a collection to Flickr, preserving the final order and captions? TNX

Is the folder you are working in a subfolder itself? LrC is very selective about letting you change image positions.

Thanks for responding.. No, but the problem is now solved. See next post.

To the best of my knowledge collections has always been the only way to rearrange photos. When exporting from LR I always use custom "names/sequential" order to keep the order the same

Thanks to you and others who recommend collections. Those don't work either because Drag & Drop of selected single or multiple photos isn't working in LRC. Also, "Email Photo" no longer works. It creates an email, but there is no photo(s) attached.
I am trying to get help from Adobe.

BTW, can collections include movie clips? Can you export a collection to Flickr, preserving the final order and captions? TNX

This looks to be a good solution when weight counts...but what do you do about other card formats? My camera uses XQD cards. And so that I understand, can you then transfer from this device to an external HD for additional backup?

The NEXTO DI NPS-10. which several of us have recommended, can handle XQD. Just Google it.

I have LR Classic 10.1.1 running on Mac OS Mojave 10.14.3. In the past, I have changed the order of images within a folder by modifying a few "times of capture" and leaving them sorted that way. That keeps them in the desired order after exporting to Flickr via jfFlickr. But shouldn't it be possible to re-order them using"custom order" in LR? In Library grid view, as well as in the filmstrip below, when I try to drag/drop an image, nothing changes. There are no sub-folders or stacks, just pictures in the folder. Adobe "Help" has not so far. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I also travel a lot, like you, and although I do take my laptop for quick edits and uploads to Facebook and other location... Just like you, I want that Extra insurance... On one 3 week trip to Paris, France, my laptop "died" during the second day out... and I was "out of luck for that backup" so had to sparingly, make sure I had copies onto my 8 128 Meg SD cards and worked very hard at keeping them clean... Vowed to never let that happened again..

Sooo, I bought a portable storage device when I got home...

May I offer the following for your kind consideration,

NEXTO DI NPS-10 Nexto Photo Storage device ~~ which is offered at B&H, but can be found at other locations...

Key Features
Portable Photo / Video Backup Unit
Review Photo & Video Content
2.4" 320x 240 Color LCD Display
1 x CompactFlash Type 1 Card Slot
2 x UHS-II SD Card Slots
1 x microSD Card Slot
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Port
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A Port
Data Transfers up to 320 MB/s
Windows, Mac, and Linux Compatible

The KEY Feature of this device, unlike others, is that you can view your content on a builtin LCD screen

A URL for the product is listed below:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1481554-REG/nexto_di_nps_10_cfast_portable_all_in_1.html

As for me, I will continue to carry my laptop, but I fully believe in Backup, Backup, Backup... and am serious about making copies all the time.......... I also, if and/when I get next to a good internet connection, will also send my images to my cloud account...

I fully know that there are many different solutions out there, and range in size and price as well and device functionalities .......... BUT, the above device allows you "view" your backups and insure, they are "OK" at that point in time...

Hope the above can help you and I wish you safe travels..... and Keep on Clicking

Cheers

I also recommend the NEXTO, which worked great on our 2019 Dec Antarctica trip...search this forum for "Backing up SD Cards to SSD Sans Lap Top" which includes comparison of many schemes.

I have not had this problem with my D7500. Have you tried a different battery? Even Nikon batteries can fail.

There was a different UHH thread recently that mentioned a "patch" that allows Aperture to run on Catalina, but no one could identify it. We agreed that Aperture is a 64 bit app, but Apple nevertheless abandoned it. Then the thread fizzled into recommendations for other apps.

I found the following:
https://forums.appleinsider.com/discussion/213510/retroactive-brings-aperture-iphoto-itunes-back-in-macos-catalina
Has anyone tried it?

Since our trip to Antarctica where we took over 10K pix, I have been using LRClassic and occasionally Photoshop. But I have about 40K old pix in Aperture that I don't want to bring into LR. So I have been running Mojave. But it would be nice to upgrade that OS finally.
