Welcome! Your story parallels a lot of folk here, including me. since you seem to indicate you've been lurking before joining, UHH, no use telling you what a fabulous learning source it is! All questions are smart!

My husband and I have used third party batteries as backups for all our cameras for many years with none of the problems I've read about - shortened life being one. We shop Amazon and pay attention to retailer ratings. You can get cheaper off of EBay, but I'd rather pay a few dollars more and know I'm getting it from a reputable supplier.

Much better! Lightening got rid of the "black hole look."

Suggestions made with love...

#1 I like the Big Sky look, but find sky and earth unbalanced. I would have gone for 1/3 earth, 2/3 sky (or vice versa if the formations are to be the main subject). Exposure great.

#2 The sky needs intensifying. Not sure of the subject as there is nothing prominent. The bluff on the left stops the eye from following into the distance. Moving more to the right, centering the view to the valley below, would bring interest to the photo.

#3 Horizon is too centered. If you have Lightroom, you can intensify and brighten the ground colors without affecting the sky. The moon is too close to the edge of the photo and, IMO, detracts from the photo. Perhaps adding more blue sky above and selectively editing the moon, you could balance the photo and bring the moon more into view.

Belated Happy Holidays to all. I've been off doing other things the past few weeks, but am anxious to get back into the photography groove and catch up with at least some of the posts I've missed!

If you have signed up, then you have access to Lightroom which is far easier to learn than Photoshop. I found Adobe's Classroom in a Book a great way to learn the basics of Lightroom. I have not gone through the lessons in Photoshop CC, but have glanced through it. As a long time Photoshop user, I think it also would benefit someone new to it. You can do each lesson at your own pace.

Don't let PS intimidate you. My impression is that people don't use more than 10 or 20% of its capabilities.

I found both books through my local library's online service (Safari - not to be confused with Apple's browser) along with the files needed to follow along with the lessons.
