What surprises me is the speed at which it's in. Day before yesterday the tree in front of the house looked like the branch in the first picture.

It was supposed to be a progression of events but I dropped the ball on number two, it wasn't quite what I want but so it goes sometimes.

Number three is the south side of the tree which is totally exploding with color.

Sometimes I arrive at just the right time when a thousand images will surely capture something.

How uncomfortably close to the truth.

It was an off the cuff guess. Pick any time during prohibition,

Maybe I should have listened to my Dad more, Grandpa owned a Speakeasy during that time frame.

Thank you. I will be looking it up. It sound like something I would like to read. One can never learn enough.

You are not alone in that idea. To stop learning is to let the brain atrophy.

Ninety years ago (give or take), it could have been the smoke from the stills.

I enjoy the challenges of learning the craft. I enjoy the chance to be creative.

Well said, Miles - that is certainly true for many of us.

Thank you for your comments Mike. My recommendation regarding visiting Italy: Do it! There are hills and steep streets in some places, but there are plenty of places where bad knees are not a problem. We wanted to go to Cinque Terre last year, but decided it would be too much of a challenge, especially for my wife who has a bad kneee from an injury about 20 years ago. We made it OK on our visit to Bellagio on this trip with its steep walkways (photos on a later post) and Siena last year with some steep streets, as well as other similar places. We spent about 2 1/2 weeks in Italy on our 1973 trip, about 2 weeks on this trip and a month on our Italian road trip last year, yet we still have MANY more places we want to visit in Italy, as well as some we want to return to and we hope to do so. It is an incredible place to visit.

That's funny about your photo being straightened!

Our bucket list far exceeds the ability to fund said trips but we work it out. My wife and #2 son are leaving on Monday for a hiking trip around Ireland. We also want to visit the Tuscany Valley.

We went to England and Scotland last December and I brought home 6 bottles of the most divine Scotch. I will see if I can find the post for you, it's STILL funny,

The love and joy of seeing. And the capture, even if not perfect, of the memories of those moments.

I love the first sentence. Those six words run very deep. With that said, you may enjoy a book called, The Art of Noticing by Rob Walker. It might just be up your alley.

Either to our like or dislike, methinks the photo gear manufacturers have their ways of figuring value to put on that.
😊😋

I see G.A.S. as an internal problem that I largely ignore but I see your point.

Since I am long past the kit lens stage, my purchases tend to be well researched and for tangible reasons. This translates into bartering sessions with the CFO because they also tend to rather expensive.

It's all good but I need justification to spend money on my hobby and usually it needs to involve a visible improvement in what I do. Everyone has their reasons I imagine.

I like both versions of the tower.

Italy is on the bucket list but my knees won't allow me to climb much either.

Your post also reminded me of a trip to the Netherland about 6 years ago. My wife and I went to visit some friends in Delfgauw which is about 15 from Delft by car. There is a church there, just off of the main square that has a decided tilt to it and I captured a very nice canal shot where the trees were vertical and the church was not.

I posted here and almost fell out of my chair laughing when a fellow hogger "straightened it" for me.

It's been said in many ways and many of them apply to me as well, but the simple answer is that I enjoy making images, I enjoy sharing them with people, but most of all, a great many of them take me back to the spot that I captured them from.

It is not possible to put a value on that.

I recently purchased a Nikon Z8 and am interested in a remote shutter release that will reduce possible shaking during shooting and also provide for an intervalometer function. I have looked at many on Amazon and elsewhere but so many of them seem to have so many poor reviews for reliability and quality. I would appreciate input that other Hogs may have had with various remote shutter controls that are compatible with the Z8 (many of the ads for remote devices when I Google them do not seem to be up to date on applicability to the Z8. I have to presume that if it has the 12 contact device or is listed as working on the Z9, it must also work on the Z8, but I may be wrong.)

Thank you.

Scotty

It's been said but yes, there is a built-in option but my Vello FreeWave goes everywhere my camera goes and they are not terribly expensive. It has a range of about 300'. like I would ever get that far away from my beloved D 750 but it has come in handy.
