Can I politely ask a question which goes a few posts back. Before I ask, enjoy the printer and good luck. Enjoy your toy, don't let it frighten you.

Now, monitors. Yes ou are right. Laptop and or crappy desktop monitors are not good. I have read several articles about calibrating your monitors. I can see how bad mine is as it cannot be adjusted. Or have not figured out how. My next purchase may be a monitor. Some suggestions in a price range would be appreciated.

Mac monitors are great...

I always try to carry my digital p-n-s. I have one of those little gorilla grip mini-tripods and I sometimes pack it. I used to carry my DSLR with me, but when it was new, I dropped it on a basketball court type floor and broke the lens. I was so devistated, I didn't get it repaired for a year. I use my DLSR for certain events and my PNS for everything else.

I love the idea of the string monopod. Mostly I use my gorilla grippy thing for timer self-portraits of my family of six.

Insurance for your camera is not that expensive... and well worth it if your camera was expensive. i think we pay around $40 a year for the peace of mind that it brings. i also have insurance on my puppies for the same reason. that insurance is a bit more, but then... so are puppy problems.

Your photos are lovely. However, I find them to have a lack of sharpness. Red is a difficult color to photograph unless done right (I do not know what right is). There is no detail in the petals of the flower.

I hope you do not mind my reactions. Just giving my impressions.

Keep shooting. I like your eye for subject.

You have a good, sharp eye. Keep on being honest!

Thank you. I do try to be as honest as I can within the limited knowledge that I have. Sometimes I worry about being too blunt, but how else will any one of us learn anything.

Well, here I am... not an expert, but I do a lot of flowers, many of which I am not happy with. The iris is not in focus. I would suggest that you either capture the entire flower or zoom in closer to get just a part. But focus.

The ladybug image... that should be your center of interest... and better focus is needed again... unless you focus just on the ladybug.

The third image, the pollen, is the most interesting of the three. Stand a little further back so that you can get the whole picture of the pollen covered whatever they are called. I forget at the moment. I do that a lot, forget. It is better to have to crop a little than to chop off important elements, in my mind.

Thank you strubbles. If ever I find my way back there again, I'll sure take your suggestions. I tend to move on but I'm sure I can find other situations in the future to which I can apply your ideas. Never without a variety of examples, I may have some that would appease you more other than the iris which was a one-time shot but I wouldn't bother you with them even if I knew where they were. You've made your point well and I've taken it accordingly. Thanks.

Of course, my suggestions were meant for general information, not that anyone should go back to reshoot... keep shooting as will I.

I know, and that's the way I took it, totally. I can't go back there because those shots were all made with equipment I'm disinclined to shoot with and my interests have changed a lot from then. While I thoroughly enjoyed my time doing that, I'm enjoying my time equally as much or more doing what I'm doing now and the urge to live in the past hasn't hit me yet. I will, as I said, try to retain your valued comments in future situations. My mind is only broadening at a time when I hear it's supposed to be shutting down. I heard you loud and clear. Thanks.

Well, many of the Masters group in my local photography club have their photos printed at Costco... the prints are marvelous and not very costly. A 20x30 costs $8.99. Try it. You might like it.

I assume that Linda Lee must be a professional who sells a lot of photographs to have a printer like that. Wow!

Absolutely not... I'm not a pro, I don't sell photos. It was a gift, believe it or not... And, the thing scares me.

What a gift! Maybe next occasion the gift giver will give more ink.

I love both shots.... I sharpened one.... not sure which I like better in this case. Perhaps you wanted a softer look.

Hi Strubbles, I like your sharpened version also. Do you sharpen in high pass? Initally I had sharpened the photo more but decided to soften everything except the bird's eye. However, I like both versions and if I had to choose between the two, it would be difficult. Take care and thanks for replying...Jan

i generally sharpen with filter/sharpen/unsharp mask.

I have tried high pass, have to try it again. not sure how it works. any suggestions?

Great shots. We are in Boynton Beach. Florida has the most incredible clouds, skies and sunsets...

Your welcomed visitor might well be a Bufo toad, extremely poisonous to dogs... especially little dogs, but all dogs. I am not sure it is a Bufo, but we are so paranoid about them here in Florida that we each take a good flashlight, one puppy a piece, on very short leashes when we take them out at night.

I am enclosing a photo of a Bufo taken on our front lawn. I stay away from all of them, just in case.... One lick can do it. And they spray, though that has never happened to us... probably because we look carefully before the puppies have a chance to leap.

Sorry to have changed direction of your post, but important to know!

Stay away from this one...
