Congratulations Bret and a great shot. I posted this 3 years ago and thought it was good, but I like yours shot much better.

Jerry, not sure if this will work, but I heard of a plug-in called Mogrify that will take EXIF data and add it to your watermark. You could pull the file name as the date. Check it out. Do a google search for 'Mogrify'.

The white guy has been confirmed by Dr Bill Hilton of the Hilton Pond Center http://www.hiltonpond.org/ as a leucistic male Purple Finch.
Thanks all for your input.

I suspect that they're Purple Finches, though that's a tough call since I can't see enough detail on the males to confirm that. In any case the 'white' one is also a male but it has Leucism. That's a recessive gene, that some birds have, restricting pigmentation to certain parts of their plumage creating the light patches. Hope this helps.

Thank you Joe for your informative reply. I had to lookup Leucism and found this link. http://feederwatch.org/unusual-bird/female-house-finch-partial-leucism/ I had no idea about this condition and next time I will take better care on camera setting.

This is the time of the year in North Carolina that the Finches take over the bird feeder and empty it on the ground. I am not good at bird identification but I think these are House Finches, mostly females. Any idea what the white guy is?
I did not do a good job of setting up the camera. The photos were taken through a window with a D750 18-300mm. Setting for two of the pictures were AF-A 1/640 f6.3 ISO 3200.

I am saving my pennies for a full frame camera. Currently using a D7100 mostly with the Tamron 150-600 for general wildlife with the emphasis on birds. Happy with this set up but want to add a full frame to my bag.

I know I will need new glass since all I have is DX except for the Tamron. What gets the nod between the 610 (great price right now), the 750 and the 810. Looking for good low light/low noise combo. I think the new rig will be mostly for landscapes. What first lens would you recommend to go with the camera?

Thanks for any and all thoughts!

I have a D7000 and loved the camera but wanted to get to a full frame. I have the 18-300mm DX and a 35mm 1.8G ED lens. Well, I got GAS and purchased the D750. Reason FF, low light, and low noise. The DX lens works well on the D750 as it has the option to chose the image area ( FX, 1.2x , or DX). So my DX lens will hang around for a while as I save up to upgrade the lens. I take mainly slow sports pictures like running, triathlons, etc.

Thanks Jerry. I just got a D750 as my introduction to FF. It performs so much better than my D7000 in low light both focus and exposure. All the reviews I read can't find much wrong with this camera at the price point.

Have you used the live view? Mostly the extra counts is due to shifting of live view.
When you switch on and off the live-view,there is an extra count due to mirror flipping. You can check this by taking a picture and switch to live view then switch off live view and take another picture, you will see the second picture has an extra count. Setting raw+JPEG is only count as one, since the mirror and shutter curtain only actuated once.

TH, you got it. LV on and off ups the count. On my previous D7000 I did not use it very much because it did work all that well, but this D750 it is great and I had been using it lots.
So, the shutter activation is more than just a count of the shutter, it includes mirror movement.
Thanks to all for the responses. So much to learn with all the new technology. Love it!

The JPEG and NEF files both use exactly the same number. That number is not related to the shutter actuation count.

The serial numbers used for file names can be reset in several ways, and one may or may not actually be aware of having done that.

The shutter actuation count is just exactly that. Actuations for multiple exposures (HDR etc) are all counted. So will an actuation to hold the mirror up for sensor cleaning.

I would agree that you can reset the file names, but that has not happen. This is a new camera and I checked the shutter count on the 1st pictures and it was the same as the file name. I took about 80 pictures and now I have 39 more actuations. I did not do HDRs or mirrors up sensor cleaning. Did turn it on/off multiple times, but that did not up the count.

Were you shooting in raw + jpg?

I did some as raw + jpg and other just jpg. The picture I posted was a jpg only. I did not think that the file type should effect the shutter count.

Just got my D750 and love it. I did a check on the EXIF data and found that the shutter count was at 119 and the picture file number was 80. I checked the first pictures I took and the shutter count and picture count were the same. Seem like I'm getting some extra counts. I did not reset the camera setting or reset the sequence number or create a new folder. Can anyone explain?

Sorry for the delayed response. Life sometimes gets in the way.
I did a bit more research and came to the conclusion that it is lens flare. I had initially discounted it because I was looking just at the one bright spot which showed up in the same location but different pictures had less defined spots in different locations. A google search on flares flare showed pictures that looked like mine. In reading about lens flare, zoom lens can do strange things in the sun because of the number of elements.
I do not think it was moisture as the shots were taken in RI where the inside and outside temp. were very close. No AC. I should have mentioned that earlier.
Thank you all for your responses and suggests. Next time lens hood on out door pictures.

So you have a filter on the front of this lens?

No filter, just the 18-300mm lens.

I don't think its dirt, although it wouldn't hurt to check you lens, filters and mirror in the camera for diet or water spots. They look like they may be reflections from a watch, jewellery or something bright in the vicinity.
Either way they can be easily removed in Photoshop or Photoshop elements using the spot removal tool or the clone tool, possibly other programmes have this but I use Ps and Pse 12.

Have fun

Geoff

Since it was on multiple pictures in different locations I do not think it was reflection. I did not see the spots until I transferred them to the computer. They appeared on 2 outdoor shoots, 10-15 pictures each and than were not present on a indoor shoot done a couple hours later.
I used Elements 11 to remove the spots. But I would like to know what caused them as I did not take any action to make them go away while shooting.
