Thanks for the tip. I was not aware of this product. When I looked it up it was not clear if it works with the raw image the way FRV does and I may have to try it to see. This article compares FRV to it and to other options.

I have Photo Mechanic, and it works for Raw. If it did not, I would not have bought it as I only shoot Raw, and it does a great and fast job processing raw to jpeg. give it a try and I am certain that it will do exactly what you want.

Good point...the d800e is is a little different than the D800...I wonder where the softness could come from?

The softness is from the AA filter in the D800... The D800 E does not have the AA filter... it is a great camera and it is 99% of a D810. I have many friends who shoot D800's, D800E's, D810's, and they all like them. Only real difference in the D800/800E is the sharpness. That AA filter makes a big difference. When I bought my D800, I thought that the lack of an AA filter was mostly a gimmick... I wish that I would have bought the D800E.

You could use Photo Mechanic which is much like FRV if there is not an option in FRV... I know that Photo Mechanic had the bulk export option... and it is free standing.

Hello everyone! I have been following your posts for a few months and have learned enough to know, I have a lot to learn! I will be going on a trip to Vancouver Island and will be without electricity for 3 days on a kayaking trip to view Orca whales. Do you have suggestions for not having electricity? Have any of you used alternate portable electricity devices to recharge your camera (yes, I will have more than 1 battery with me) and download to a laptop? Also, because I have learned to shoot RAW, how many cards would you suggest? I will have more simple questions in another post but one step at a time. BTW- Thank you for all the knowledge you have shared on here. I have learned from reading your posts that the best answers come from those that are experienced.
Hello everyone! I have been following your posts ... (show quote)

You dont say what kind of camera you have so I am going to say that if it is a Nikon, you can look at the battery grip for the camera, and many of them will allow you to use the ENEL18 battery... it is equal to about 3 regular batteries. it is expensive, but certainly works. I got one for my D850 to use to get the 9 fps, but have now since found that I can shoot all day and usually 2 or 3 days without an issue. unless you are an extremely prolific shooter, 2 or 3 of those batteries will last the entire trip. If you decide to do this, the nikon battery is about $150 each, the charger is $369 but I bought a watson charger for $69 and am extremely happy with it... and the grip, well it depends on which camera you have. The knock off grips seem to work pretty well. I have the Nikon one for my D850 and a knock off for my D800 I cant tell the difference as far as the battery usage is concerned... just a thought.

in the middle of each edge... right on the edge, is an almost grayed out arrow. tap each one with your mouse and see if that takes care of your issue. if not, by all means, repeat the tapping of the arrow to restore what you had just undone.

I had to send one of my zoom lens' to the facility in New York, the repair was beyond what the local Nikon repair was authorized to perform. This is the first time I have had any issue that I needed them for. Anybody have experience with them? How long is the wait, do they communicate, how was your experience, etc.

Thank you in advance
Gilbert

Gilbert, I got my D850 back last wednesday and when I needed to know what was going on, I had to call them and wait a day or two. they had the camera 19 days... I got very tired of having to pull teeth to find out what was going on. Others here think that they have had good or even great service... unless they had something much different than what I had... they would not believe what great service looks like. good luck.

I can't speak to the SB-600 Flash, but I have used the SB-800, SB-900 and SB-5000 with my D850 with no issues. I have not had any XQD card issues (Sony and Lexar) nor have I had any focus switching. I have had my D850 since Sept 7th (date-of-release) and it has been a solid camera with absolutely no issues. Sorry to hear you have had some, but I will say, in my 30 years shooting Nikon, never once has Nikon service been anything less than completely honest, whether in or out of warranty. Best of luck.

Thank you, I have had several friends who have been less than satisfied with Nikon service in that's 3 years or so, and several have also had issues with them telling the customer that nothing is wrong but when camera comes back, everything is working... so if they didn't do anything to the camera how did it just all of a sudden start working? Hence my statement of nothing wrong but they did something... if you follow me.

What were your issues?

SB 800 nor SB 600 would fire on the D850 but would on the D800,
XQD card would occasionally report errors,
focus point would switch at random from single point to group af...

now, that said, it seems that the issues are fixed, but they said that they did not fix them. this is not the first time that I know of a camera being sent in, being told that there was no issue found, but they still fixed it... come on Nikon... lets be honest with your customers.

It appears Nikon service turnaround takes a lot more time than I would have thought. Canon turnaround would have being around a week and based on my experience, and the experience of many others, it's rare for issues not to be completely resolved to the owners satisfaction. Does Nikon use dealers with repair facilities for their authorized service centers or do they have several large regional service centers like Canon?

they do have some regional repair facilities but only two that are Nikon only... Melville NY and Escondido CA. but their customer service is very lacking for the past few years... used to be the gold standard... today is the pits in my estimation.

I sent my D500 (overnight Delivery) to LA last Monday 4-2 for repairs and was told it would take 7 to 10 days for repairs. I just recived a confirmation that they recived my Camera into their system today 4-11 and can expect the repairs to take anothe 7 to 10 days and another 3 to 5 days to have it returned to me. Good thing I hadn't planned my vacation in the next couple of weeks. NOT HAPPY

I just got my D850 back yesterday, and it was gone 3 weeks... but they did not fix the 3 issues I sent it in for. I am thinking that I will have to take to an independent to actually get it fixed. good luck.

Is that in post or in camera setting to Adobe? or Both?

it can be in both, but in your case, camera is the must, Adobe would be good idea.

Nothing more this morning.. not much more expected for the week. Today, another bright, mostly sunny day. I am the opposite direction from TC.. as Torch Lake.

Ah! I used to live in Kingsley and one of my kids now lives in Bellaire so I have a pretty good idea as to the layout of the land... just not always correct.

Seems to me no matter what with digital all we get is a 256 grey scale and in film that grey scale was much higher f you proceesed the film right as well as how you made the print. I have done a few B&W in digital and compared the results to the original B&W film print. Some of the greys blocked up into black and some of the whites got grey. I wonder why digital left itself only to a 256 grey scale? Sometimes I think we need a new Ansel Adams to figure this one out. I really do not care as much for digital B&W as I did for film B&W.

switch to a larger color space like Adobe 1998 and then do your own B&W conversion... then you are no longer limited to 256 colors.

and when you read a 1000 reviews on the same camera with different people doing them... and you have the same basic info coming out... you have your sample of 1000 cameras... just sayin.
