Give me a break. There are new folks dropping in all the time. The questions will always be repeats. ---They answer the same math questions in school today as they did a hundred years ago. - the same music notes are taught every day- the same manners are ignored every day - this is a fun place to visit, not a courtroom for old stick-in-the-muds.

Hi SpyderJan, I have answered this in previous responses in this thread. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Using a rail the camera must move for each shot. Doesn't that cause a problem aligning the shots for the stack?

Still playing with focus stacking some coins I have. I have included the first of 13 images and the final stack for comparison. Notice the difference in the overall focus to fully realize what focus stacking can do for you.

I posted 3 other images yesterday but again my post did not make the daily digest of posts. Will have to watch the time when I post I guess. I have now found the black hole of posting twice this week. Anyone else experience this?

Did you use a focusing rail or did you do everything manually in another way? Curious. I know the Nikon D850 I have will do the exposure part in camera. Then there are various programs that will do the stacking.

Thank you. I shot these in Aperture Priority. Here is the info:

#1. f/11, 8 sec, 25mm, ISO 100(for all)
#2. f/22, 6 sec, 16mm
#3. f/16, 6 sec, 16mm
#4. f/22, 8 sec, 16mm
#5. f/8, 8 sec, 16mm

Taken with a Nikon 16-85mm on a Nikon D7100....using a circular polarizing filter.

Thanks for posting the exposure info.

The SONY model: MRW-E90 card reader for XQD and SD works very well for me.

Yes, I'm beginning to get the picture, that it's just incrementing the focus, not actually focusing on anything. Pretty good that it does it like that; what if, after shooting on one branch, it suddenly found empty space to infinity? Thus, I'll have to engage in a lot of experimentation to figure out what works best for me. I guess in the long run it will be easier than just adjusting the focus for myself, which is what I fantasized about when I stepped up to the 850, but there will have to be a fair amount of grunt work between here and there.

I'm also imagining that the size of the step is a complex function of what step size I select, focal length, aperture, and the initial distance at which the lens is focused, making hard to specify how big a step is, unless they published the algorithm somewhere in an interactive context, so one could enter all of the needed values, and then discover the actual size of the step. Maybe some technically savvy person is reading all of this, and there'll be an app soon! (A person can dream, right?)

You said it better than anyone!! All the needed values should be able to be entered.

I only use the online manual from Nikon USA and it has the same page numbers as the printed manual.

Possibly the app you are using is cutting the bottom of the page off, or you downloaded one of the other manuals.

Or, the way the Focus Shift topic is broken up into 3 sections you stopped after section 2 as there is a large blank area at the bottom of the page. It could be mistaken for the end of the topic.
