Lovely shot Wezza. I'm downloading the app as I write this! Best of luck with your film experiments, please post some pics soon. I've just bought some B&W film stock and I'm gonna put my old Pentax ME super back to work!

Cheers Jim, hope to see some of your film work soon too. Once ive taken them, then found somewhere on this tiny isle that actually develops them, and then received them back and then scanned them I will happily post some film shots :D

Hi Guys

Hope you are all well.

I recently read a post on here regarding light meters and made a comment on that post regarding an app I had downloaded for my iPhone called "Pocket Light Meter". I wanted to expand my opinion on the app and figured I would make a new post regarding this.

After reading Scott Kelby's very good Digital Photography Book Volumes 1,2 & 3 I started to wonder if a light meter would be of any use to me in my ongoing quest to master Manual photography with my A77. I searched Amazon, Ebay and B&H's websites and found that irrespective of whether they would assist me or not they were definitely not cheap. However during my search one of the google results introduced me to the apps available on the App Store. 2 apps stood out above the rest because they were Free, and Free is of course my favorite price. So I downloaded Pocket Light Meter & Fotometer Pro and I have to say I am very impressed.
Looking through some of the photographs I have used the light meter for I was impressed with their accuracy and the ease of use, especially seeing as I have never used a film camera that wasnt just a little automatic p&S and as such have never needed or used a light meter before. Both apps allow you to type in the aperture you want, or the shutter speed you want and make the correct adjustments to either the aperture, shutter speed or iso for you depending on the scene it is metering. For it to work you need a phone with a camera (Which phone doesnt have a camera these days) and for Fotometer Pro which does Incident & reflective metering you will need a phone with a front facing camera for the Incident metering to work (iPhone 4 onwards). Both apps are available on both iOS and Android and I highly recommend giving them a go if you have a phone with either of those operating systems.
Subsequently it is worth noting that due to the ease of use of these light meters I have decided to give Film Photography a bash and last night purchased a Konica Minolta Dynax 404Si 28-80mm Lens kit 35mm SLR Film Camera and a few rolls of film from eBay for the princely sum of £34.99 (approx $50.00) and developing costs aside am really looking forward to trying a new medium.
Any tips regarding film photography are welcomed!!!

Thanks for listening guys (or Reading lol). I have attached a picture of my daughter taken in manual mode with the assistance of the light meter.

Just my two pence worth and I have very little experience with light meters but if you have an iPhone or an android phone two light meter apps are available. One is called fotometerpro and costs 99c I believe (69p here in the uk) and the other called pocket light meter is free. Both have got really good reviews and seem to work pretty well. Try em they may just make a difference
And will certainly be better than guessing

I was going to say before i got to the end , is all the boxes behind the kids clear plastic , and the bag that the boys hand is in, and the clear peice that is in front of the girls leg . Case solved to many reflecive surfaces . When yuo were in whit rock canada . Was the name of your host bob?

this confused me...i was never in whit rock canada so have no idea about hosts called bob or otherwise :D as for the question relating to reflective surfaces, yes they were clear plastic so dont doubt for a minute you are right :)

While I mean no offence here I already knew I could fix the issue in pp and was asking what caused it and how to prevent it happening again I wasn't looking for others to pp the image and did mention that I knew how to fix it in my OP. thanks for your input bobbym and rmalarz but that wasn't what I was asking for. Again no offence intended

Didn't even consider that, I was shooting through a doorway so the door or wall acted like a reflector. So a change in position would have sorted it. Thanks for that goofy it honestly never crossed my mind. I guess sometimes you really can't see the woods for the trees lol

Hi All
Ignoring the obvious composition problems, I was just taking some practice shots of my kids upstairs with my A77 and the lighting wasnt brilliant. when i used the flash i got this horrible haze over the image, now i know i can correct this via the wonder that is photoshop cs6 but would love to know how to correct it using the camera. I tried changing the iso, no avail. shot in shutter priority and image was too dark without flash or too blurred due to handheld slow shutter speed, aperture mode too dark without flash and haze with. i just couldn't seem to find a happy medium. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i really seem to struggle when the lighting is below par.
Thanks in Advance

get shot of means get rid of or sell my A300... we talk funny over here apparently lol

and to 1066 i am totally willing to post it to you, however there is a 100% chance of it getting lost in the mail haha!!!

Thanks for the input guys :)

Thanks for clearing up my post, I think next time I'll have to be careful what I type ( I mean, Saying "shot" probably means only one thing in the US, well yeah...."shot" ). I forget that our American cousins don't understand some of our lingo (ok, LINGO means LANGUAGE),there I go again. Anyway you could simply "shoot" with your new camera and use the A300 as an assault rifle, lol.

this made me chuckle lol
