Have any of you used this lens? Nikon 24-120mm f/4
I'm thinking of getting it with a D-750.
Sigma 24-105mm or 24-70 is another option.
Thanks for your input.

Hi, Mark - I've been using the 24-120mm f/4 for the last year with my D610 and it has become my walkaround lens of choice. I looked at a f2.8 but decided due to cost and weight to go with the 24-120/f4 and I've been very happy with it. I would buy it again.

[quote=MW]I bought a RX100M3 a few months back. Now I have sold it. This isn't a rant , just why it didn't work out for me.

I have the RX100MIII and like it very much. I'm over 6' so I don't have the problem that you mentioned of carrying it in my pocket, which I often do. While it is a great walk-around camera, I still depend on my D610.

There is also a REAL lighthouse at Hunting Island State Park outside of Beaufort SC. You might also see some dolphins. The main river through Hilton Head has some manatees right now. Savannah Wildlife Refuge is quiet now, but check it out anyway -- free!

Thanks -- will be in Beaufort so I'll check out this lighthouse, too.

I live on HHI. I would be delighted to give you a tour if you have the time. We live in Sea Pines plantation. The least I can do is call you in a free pass to our plantation. There are loads of photo ops. Birds, flowers, historical sights, where to capture sun rise, sun sets, gators, Atlantic ocean, beach scenes etc. Pick a day or two and I'll do my best to accommodate your schedule. Email to rich@rwdaley.com would be the best way to communicate.

Rich - What a kind gesture. I'll get in touch as timing firms up. Thank you.

Google Old Sheldon Ruins. Also Michellville beach - some Lonesome trees to the left of the entrance to the beach - late in the daylight. Also go down Spanish Wells Road from Rt 278 about a 1/2 mile and shoot the dock on the right.

Jim S - thanks. I'll certainly give the dock a look at and see what I can do with it.

Just as you get on Hilton Head on 278, about 1/4 mile from the end of the bridge, you want to turn right on Chamberlin Drive and then turn immediately into what looks like an abandon parking lot on the right. Go to the end of the parking lot and set up looking over the creek. This is a great evening shot, especially if you have some "interesting" weather. It's a great place in the summer with the afternoon thunderstorms. If nothing else, you can get a great sunset there.

TerryA -- Great info! Just what I was looking for

[quote=DLM]Happy to hear you will be visiting our beautiful Lowcountry. You will be arriving at a great time .... right in the middle of the Fall bird migration.

DLM - thanks for the great info, which I'll certainly put to use. I've shot the Savannah Refuge before and will probably spend some time there as well. Looking forward to a part of SC that I haven't visited before.

Many thanks for the info. I shot in Savannah last year and probably will go back to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge again. I'll be sure to try the Boat House.

I was to Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge once, but that was years ago and the highlight of the visit was running for cover when a thunderstorm hit. My parents retired to the island and they took us to The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn during our most recent visit, a small museum about life in the Low Country and nice grounds to tour.

I'll try Pinckney Island as well as the museum. We're really looking forward to the trip.

My camera club, CNPA, had a four day shoot in this area. Great photo ops are at Fish Haul Creek, botany Bay, and the Savannah Wildlife Refuge which had lots of birds, alligators, and flowers, but you have to be there at sunrise to see them. At Fish Haul Creek you need to go at low tide.

Thanks - I'll definitely try your recommendations. I shot SNWR last year when we were staying in Savannah and it was great. I may drive down that way again.

Harbour Town is where the famous lighthouse is located as well as the megayachts. Sunrises and sunsets can be real nice. There is also a nature trail for wildlife. The salt marshes located on the north end as you go over the bridge are real pretty. Beaufort is old southern town. Great views.
B-58???

Thanks, Mitch. The B-58 I worked on (ground crew, Photo Maint/Recon) in the early 60s at Bunker Hill AFB, IN. Part of the 305th Bomb Wing, which was part of the 8th AF.
