Thanks Dixiegirl. It is a beautiful part of the country with rather a lot of castles and a fascinating history.

Thank you, CJ. The pano was a right pain to shoot what with all the people milling around and it took three goes to tweak out the ghosts but it's not bad if I do say so myself :D

Our camera club took a three day trip out to Northumberland last week (for those unfamiliar with the geography of the UK, that's the bit on the north east coast just below Scotland). British weather being what it is, we only got decent light midday on the last day. Still, it was a load of fun and I managed to bag one or two nice shots.

An interactive version of the pano can be found here:

iPad users get gyroscope support—rather cool

Enjoy, and comment as you see fit :D

Thanks to all for looking and commenting.

Although High Anglican, there is little in the way of ornate decoration in the church and, oddly, none of the windows are stained glass. I'm going to be shooting a pano inside the church soon. I was going to do it last Saturday but the locking bolt on the centre column of my tripod gave up the ghost—the thread got stripped. It does annoy me that a moderately expensive carbon-fibre tripod skimps when it comes to this particular fitting. Who on earth specified using a mild steel bolt when it clearly should have been hardened steel?

This is St Mary's Church in Horden, County Durham. Known as The Miners' Cathedral, it celebrated its 100th year a few days ago. Horden was once the home of the largest coal mine in Europe and the entire village was built around servicing the vast pithead.

Now the mines are long gone but the legacy of those times lives on. This beautiful church is a reminder of the area's mining history and is still a vibrant part of the community.

An interactive VR version of the panorama can be found here:

Thanks for posting your pano/HDR images. I like the first image as it shows the textures and colors of the structure in a very natural way.
Have you considered adding focus stacking to your process?
Jim

That would be extraordinarily difficult especially with my current setup. I try and go for a deep enough depth of field to make that unnecessary. What I'd really like are 24mm and 28mm primes with focus marks so I can take the guesswork out of setting the hyperfocal distance.

Thanks for looking :D

Great work, I really enjoyed them.

I also would love a new Mac Pro, but also the new MacBook Air. Now if I could convince my wife that I really need one or the other.

Appreciate the comments.

I'd go for the Mac Pro. If the figure of 7 teraflops of performance is true, it would be remarkable. Ten years ago, that level of performance would have made it the 8th most powerful computer on the planet!

VR=Virtual Reality. The program's takes a cylindrical or spherical panorama and does some clever math to give you the illusion of traversing around in pseudo-3D space.

Excellent work! Thanks for posting the method too.

My pleasure. The most vital step in the workflow is the first one :D

I'd forgotten one step: check the original source images for stray birds flying through frame and remove them. The reason for this is that the bird will be in three different positions (usually) and when going through HDR, you can get a little black dot with a halo round it. I'll also remove any lens flare where possible.

Incidentally, Denemouth 2 was the first time I'd attempted a 2-row 360 pano. One row was with the camera tilted about 20 degrees down, the other 20 degrees up. I'm amazed that Autopano Giga didn't even bat an eyelid at computing the link points.

Very nice, particularly No 4.

There are supposed to be deer in the dene down the road from me but in two years of tramping about the place, I've seen nary a one. I'm jealous now.

I love the first shot. If I may, the sun is clearly blown out but if you shoot in RAW, you can get about a stop and a half of highlight recovery. You might also try something like Viveza which can apply various image tweaks to just a select area—very useful for teasing out those problem areas.

Keep up the good work :D
