I have a special love for color images that look to be B&W. Whenever I can, I try to shoot one. Yours looks great. I'll bet the experience of being there at that time was even more rewarding than nailing this image.

For sure!

Yep. Same here. My Sony has a dynamite autofocus system. With any autofocus system, a lot of its reliability has to do with the lens itself. It does not matter whether if it is controlled though the body or the lens. And you are so right about the "toys". There are even point & shoot cameras that have features that no one uses - and should. I am still discovering some very useful tools is mine that I did not know existed. This just proves that I am still a true amateur.

The funny thing is about that saying that a better camera does not make for a better photographer. Not true. Even though I feel that many people ordering the D850 probably have no business owning one, I am positive that their crappy pictures will be of the highest quality. Lol.

The other thought is that if it strikes your fancy and you can afford it, who cares?? LOL!

I'll be leaving Gardiner when you pull in. We will be there for a week the end of September...an annual event for us each May and September.

I'd love to keep it a secret! LOL!

Yeah,my wife loves getti g up at 5am on vacation when its 30 degrees out & eating breakfast after I shoot the sunrise , fog or bugling elk. A little hot chocolate on the way out to the Park goes a long way. Eaten many breakfasts on the tailgate of the truck before dawn in the Firehole Lake Area. Also Oxbow Bend & Moulton Barn in the Tetons.

We'll be at Oxbow for a couple days Oct 2 and then up to Gardiner. Kind of partial to and spend a lot of time in Lamar and Swan lake areas. The jerks cancelled our Mammoth Hotel reservations in Nov after deciding to shut down and renovate, so we stayed in Gardiner in June and liked where we stayed. Slim pickings in the park without advance reservations. A Yellowstone Gateway Inn suite with a full kitchen, separate bedroom and walking distance to the grocery store really worked out well. We hate dining out all the time and pack a lunch for convenience. No convenient eating places in Lamar and other places, especially in Oct!

AMICA is a great company. They were super when we had a house fire.

I have been with them for 35 years and can attest to their service.

I really have no need for a camera like that. I would venture to guess that most people who will buy one, won't actually need it either. The only reason I ever upgraded in the first place was because I loaned my first true dslr to my daughter and never got it back. She still uses it regularly. Then, I pretty much wore out my next one. And now I am on my third one. I would also venture to say that if I had a bunch of Nikon or Canon lenses from the film days instead of Minolta AF lenses that would work fully with those brands, I would have gone with one of those instead of Sony. They are all very good cameras.

Lots of toys that most will probably not use. The autofocus system is a good tool for those that learn how to use it. I enjoy it with the D500.

This is just before you exit into the Old Faithful area. Closer to Black Sand. Firehole Lake is my favorite early morning area though.

You really captured it well! Sleeping in is overrated!
