I started editing with Photoshop CS3 and have yet to find anything I liked better. My oldest daughter on the other hand loves Lightroom.

Of course, most of us, in this hobby, get comfortable and proficient in our chosen programs. But, I can say that the masking capabilities of LR and continued refinement of those tools is an absolute game changer for me. Being able to select, say the sky, edit it, then duplicate that mask and inverse it to edit the landscape, is amazing. Add to that, the ability to brush over an object and LR will automatically select and mask it? Pretty cool. I now can take photographs and do things that would take hours (and beyond my level of skill and patience) to do.

The LRCC (mobile) is downright voodoo. When on trip, I can take a photo, edit it on the fly and post it to a site, say WhatsApp, so our travel mates or group can use them or at least see them, and people think I am a wizard. It is usually the selective masking that helps me the most.

Anyhoo, LR sure upped my meager game.

LR is by far my most used photography related program. In addition ive learned to (somewhat) seamlessly integrate use of LRCC (the mobile version) with my desk top making travel photography so much easier.

The quick integration with Portfolio is an added plus. Add to all that the map feature and the slide show component. It’s an amazing value for me.

What lens / gear set up would you recommend for on international vacation tour to Italy??

I was think of my Nikon D7500 with a Tamron 18-400mm & Nikon 50mm lenses.

Thoughts??

Your gear would cover it. If you want to carry gear, that would be ok. The 50 would be ok inside, however, I do prefer a wider angle lens for that kind of work. (Burkphoto must have been typing while I was typing. He's a pro and knows what is what. That 50 would be too tight for my preferences. Then again, I rarely shoot anything other than wide angle-ish stuff. Particularly in places like Italy. Like him, I shoot m43 gear, but with pro lenses, so gear is still a bit large.)

But, I just returned from Italy and Switzerland a few weeks ago. For the first time I left my interchangeable lens camera and lenses home and only took my Sony RX100 vi. The jury is still out if I will do that again. On one hand, I missed my regular gear...I am so intimately familiar with its workings. I love the lenses and what the system produces. But, carrying a small camera on my belt was sure nice. It takes decent photos. (I was not all that familiar with the camera, which was a mistake.) Carrying a large-ish camera on international travel is a pain. It also depends if you are traveling with a group, with group transportation, or your own rental car or via train. We were on trains and suffice to say, Italian trains are a challenge for a whole bunch of reasons. Add to that luggage AND gear, and it would not have been fun.

I am at the point of no longer taking photos inside churches, etc. the first few churches are ok, but it becomes overload. And, be prepared for crowds.....large crowds. I just dont want a photo of a church with people all over the place...so I now just get a post card and move on. But, say at the David in Florence, I did take photos and like them. I don't know, I am in a quandary.

Also, do not forget that cameras on phones make exceptional travel cameras as well. My wife takes some excellent memorable pics with her iPhone.

I guess my answer is "maybe."

You have two excellent technical responses in this posting which might solve your problems. The only other variable I thought of is to review your shooting technique. Your OP did not mention if the shot was hand-held or on a tripod. A tripod, then the potential camera shake issue is eliminated. But if hand-held, then that could be a contributing factor as well.

There was link to the rest of the Time winners, but you never go beneath the headlines BEFORE your usual immediate knee-jerk Canon fanboy reactions, LOL, LOL. .

You are always free to post any Canon kudos you want, but you usually dont get your facts right when you refer to any other brand but Canon, LOL.

Everyone here in UHH expected this kind of reply from the usual suspects, LOL. I asked from comment from Sony A7RV and FX3 owners, but I knew you would jump in and you didn't disappoint, LOL.

You can't refute the "Camera of the Year" and the other awards and accomplishments I listed for the Sony A7RV and FX3 that go far beyond the Time Magazine awards. Feel free to start your own thread with all the Canon awards and accomplishments you can find.

This thread isn't for you, or for you Canikon fanboys, or about anything Canon or Nikon, sorry, LOL, LOL.

Cheers and best to you.

Your posting was pretty informative. It was not misleading. Sad some folks need to get into a fight when not warranted. One guy in particular. They're ruining this site with idiocy.

I did go read the full list and it is quite extensive...ranging from AI, to medicine, to fitness to transportation. Maybe 50 products? Some I never heard of and will look at further. They mention something with Mercedes. I loathe the company and their cars...had a very expensive bad experience...but does that diminish the evaluation of that tech? Nope. And are these folks experts in all fields? Nope. but it is a fun list to look at.

Because Time Magazine names those Sony cameras the "best inventions" of 2023 should I run and buy Sony? Give me a break.
I know this is not important to the majority of you here but I am satisfied and very happy with the output I get from my old cameras, Olympus and Nikon. I have what I need but if I had to buy another camera it surely would be from OM Digital Solutions. I get excellent results from Olympus and Panasonic lenses and also excellent results from my Nikon optics so, why change?

Use what you have, no reason to burn more money. Just my opinion.

Yes. Because Time Magazine listed a Sony camera as among the best inventions of the year, you should go out immediately and buy the camera. It is imperative.

There is a new movie out about Ferrari. I drive a Ford GT, so it has nothing to do with me, I hate Ferrari and refuse to see the movie.

Troll

You're confused on what a troll is and use the term a little too loosely. A troll is, "a is a person who posts or makes inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages online or in real life, with the intent of provoking others into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others' perception, thus acting as a bully or a provocateur." Posting that something was talked about years ago or off handidly mentioning their film forum but giving extensive on-topic info is not trolling. There was no provocation and in fact their comments added to the interesting nature of this post...until the name calling started to fly.

Adobe is forcing a new catalog update. Does anyone know if it is working smoothly. Are there likely to be problems? I do not have time to fix it now, if the download goes wrong. Anyone know what to expect?

I too have been amazed at the quality of my 5 year old iPhone SE. The quality is quite good and there are some surprising enhancements built in (like macro) and, for photo editing, there is "Snapleaf", a cellphone editing app. I'm having fun with it.

Im guessing maybe you mean, "SnapSeed"?? I agree, its pretty cool to use.

The real test of the quality of a smartphone camera is to take a picture of Bigfoot, Nessy, UFOs, or Aliens from Outer Space when they land and if they come out clear and sharp...the camera would be considered to be good.😁

I did that and no one believes me.
