What lens / gear set up would you recommend for on international vacation tour to Italy??

I was think of my Nikon D7500 with a Tamron 18-400mm & Nikon 50mm lenses.

Thoughts??

I took an 18-200 and a 50 to Iceland. Worked well for me.
It depends on your needs and desires...
What you think you may be shooting and your interests.

My suggestion would be to look at some of your old photos and see what focal lengths most of them fall into. Last year I bought a 24-70 f2.8 because 90+ % of my stuff was in that range and I was after that extra bit of light gathering capability.

I doubt that you will go wrong with what you are planning on taking and there won't be a need to use the 50 mm unless you need more light.

I am about to embark on a European adventure this coming week. I am taking a 24-200 2.8 and a 14-24 2.8 for landscape and architecture. This is a first for me as I would normally also take my 90-300 but I’m lightening up the load. You might want to just take the 18-400… you will be covered for people, landscape, and architecture in Italy. You’re even covered for some birding and nature shots. Have a wonderful trip.

I'm sure the 18-400 will cover almost every situation you can come up with -- something wider might be nice for landscapes, but you may be able to do panoramas. I'm assuming that the 50mm is much faster, and small, so it couldn't hurt to have it, though you may not need it.

Do you think the places you are visiting will require a super long (600mm equivalent) Focal Length? My travel kit is a Z50 with the Z DX 18-140mm (27-210mm equivalent) lens. If I think I’ll want something wider, I’ll also take my Z 14-30mm (21-45mm equivalent) lens. Do you have anything in F-Mount in those FL ranges? You might be better served by going wide instead of going long.

You know Mac, you have a valid point. I once shot a 12-day vacay in Ireland with nothing but a D7100 and a 10-24mm.

It was my first taste of good Nikkor glass and I haven't looked back.

The 10-24mm lens is ideal for interiors and general photography.

Sounds good.
My travel is totally different than most here so I would bring a 10-18mm, 24-105mm and a 100-400mm. As I have no restrictions on space or time on site.

It also worked very well for cozy village shots and landscapes. It showed up two days before we flew out so I didn't have time to play. I made it work.

I am by nature a pack rat. I also have a history of travelling with way too much stuff...just in case. But the past two summers, I've conducted a couple of experiments in conjunction with trips to the annual meeting of my chosen railroad history and modelling society. This meeting involves meetings and clinics, but it also includes field trips to a wide variety of locations.

I took two cameras, one a DX and one a FX. Each camera had a 24-120mm f/4 lens. Each day, I took one of the cameras at random. I missed exactly zero shots. A quick handheld panorama was required to photograph the exterior of a large depot one day, but that was a day that I was carrying the full-frame camera. Even my 14mm wide angle lens wouldn't have been sufficient.

My conclusion? When traveling, it's not necessary to have every lens from the cabinet. Even a single lens with which you are comfortable and confident can be sufficient. The format, quite surprisingly, seems to make only minimal difference.

Granted that I do not photograph birds or other wildlife. My information doesn't suggest that Italy is a hotspot for either of those. Also...I choose not to have regrets over anything I might have decided to leave at home. If you are different in this regard, you might choose differently from me.

When we went to Germany for 10 days I took a 24-70 and my wife took a 24-105. We didn’t miss having any of our other lenses. When we go to Israel next year we are taking the same lenses. We both use full frame cameras. There were a few times I wish I had the 24-105 too, so I might buy another one for the trip to Israel.

I did great touring around Europe and here in America with a Nikon D800 and a 24-85 f3.5 lens. It suited my needs but maybe not for everyone.

First, the D7500 is a great camera, but not in low light. If you are going to do a lot of shadows and inside shots the 50mm is not bad. Assuming 1.8mm on the 50, close down a couple and you should be fine. Just came off a 11 day shoot in NM & CO and despite having every lens in the world available, 90+ % was the 24-70 2.8. Consider renting it. Did the State Fair of Texas TX\OU using 24-120mm people scenes - love that lens. Would still just rent 24-70.
Yes it is a full frame lens but will work great on the 7500. Hope this helps.
