having a gun in your home greatly increases your chances of getting shot

"you don't understand probability...do you?"

I think I do.

Having a bathtub in my house increases my chances of death or injury.
Having stairs in my house increases my chances of death or injury.
Driving a car increases my chances of death or injury.
Living on a volcanic island increases my chances of death or injury.

So, whats your point?

Scary isn't it.

I am going to annoy many here.

They want to eliminate malaria, stop deaths in children, eliminate the starving, help us to all live 20 years longer, Catholics and 3rd world want more and more children, ok, I don't disagree with eliminating death and poverty, but....

Can someone tell me where all the people will live, what we will all eat

What goes around comes around again. This is the same stuff that was out in the early 1980s - that by 2000 we would not be able to support the current population growth. Oh, and a new ice age was coming. Ice age didn't show up so it turned into global warming. And technology keeps finding a way to increase food production.

I enjoy the challenge of finding and capturing the "light". And I love it when somebody sees a big print of that capture in my studio and goes "Ooh, that's neat!"

I have a Canon 60D and an 18-135mm lens. I also bought a flash for it but it was a cheaper one from EBay. I did an event last night that was outside but late evening so it was basically dark. I could not get it to focus on anything and my flash wasn't helping at all. I ended up taking the external flash off and just using the built in flash. It helped a little but I missed some shots and feel horrible. Please point me in the right direction of a better lens for low light and maybe some tips for shooting at night. Keep in mind, in this event people are constantly moving, running, etc. Thanks!

You have gotten lots of information, some of it helpful. Here is the guy who can teach you everything you need to know about using your strobe. http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/

I've been looking for something to display my digital photographs to others - friends to potential customers. Are tablets preferable for their portability, other than carrying around a laptop? Regardless, both have lots of features I could live without, from cameras to unneeded software.
I suppose the bigger screen, the better for displaying the image? I'm open to suggestions - what do others use as opposed to carrying around a ton of prints?

The Google 10. Highest resolution. Convenient size. Much easier to work with than a laptop. Not loaded down with a bunch of software. I use it only for my calendar and showing photos.

Zeiss has just released a new Prime lens, The Otus 55mm f/1.4 Distagon which sells for $4000. Does anyone here have experience with Zeiss lenses and can they really be worth that much more. I currently use “L” glass on my Canon and can appreciate what quality brings to the table but I could by a 50mm f1.2 L and an 85mm f1.2 L (both outstanding lenses) and still have money left over for $4000. And I’d get auto focus to boot. What is it that makes the new Distagon worth that much. Is there really a big quality difference.

I have read several reviews of this lens by some of the "big boys". They all say this is the finest slr lens they have ever seen. Fantastic colors. Super, super, super sharp. Most lens have to be stopped down to reach their sharpest focus. This one is reported to be sharpest wide open.

HI! I have a Canon 70D. I have a photo 3648x2432 72dpi. I am putting pics on a CD and need them to be able to be printed at 8x10 (and still look good). Do I leave it as is or resize it and if I resize it how do I figure out what the new ratio is?

I would be glad to help you. I have sent you a PM.

Elections have consequences. Democrats don't control Congress, just over 1/2 of one chamber. Why should the tail wag the dog ?

Gun control means many different things, almost every country where there is legislation does it differently.

A very good start is:
1. No guns for anyone determined as mentally unstable
2. Snap for anyone ever convicted of a violent crime, backed up with severe mandatory prison time. ( there would need to be an appeal process for people who can show they need and can be trusted with a gun).

These two are already federal law in the United States.

No need to wait, it's already out - also known as the Rebel SL1.

People are getting hung-up in the final photo size!! You paid dearly for the MPx... So you gather as much MPX as possible and compose and then crop for desired size... why trash part of that expensive sensor by using an aspect ratio differing from the "native" L to W ration of the sensor.

Please Cam1017 and others who say change camera aspect ratio... inform me of the logic... please... am I the one that is confused??

I don't know if you are confused or not, but if you are going to end up cropping a picture to the same pixel dimensions of an aspect ratio you can take in camera, it's sort of the old 'six of one, half a dozen of another' thing .

Folks, whatever kind words you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I have a canon 5D MKIII. What aspect ratio setting would be the best choice for printing large images of landscapes?

Since the book for the 5dm3 indicates it takes pictures only in the 3:2 aspect ratio, you don't have very many options.

Thank you Captain. My SX50 does shoot 4:5 ratio. so that what I will keep it on. I appreciate all the help I get from you great people.

Some cameras do allow the operator to select different aspect ratios. That's what the book in the camera box is for.

Murphey's Law states that whatever aspect ratio you use to take the picture will not be the the aspect ratio at which the picture will look best when printed. Good luck.

Logically, the victim has the first duty to leave, if that is possible. Failing that, he may defend himself against deadly threat, but he can use deadly force only if the threat he faces is deadly.

I know it's dificult for you to understand, because truth is not your object, but manipulating it is.

Both Zimmerman and Martin felt under threat. If each had done the prudent thing, and left the area, Martin would still be alive, and Zimmerman would not have faced the possibility of life in prison.

Zimmerman pulled a pistol as defense against two fists, and the result is still murder in my book.

Really, you need to think more clearly.[/quote]

Logically? I don't see any logic. I have no duty to leave any location I am legally allowed to be. A threat becomes deadly as soon as it becomes physical. I'm not a mind reader; I don't know if the attackers are going to beat me to death or not.

Really, you need to think more clearly. Or maybe they'll stop beating you when you reach a vegetative state.
