I have just purchased a Pixma Pro 100. I have a sample pack of 8 papers from InkPressPaper that I will try with some images.

However, I'd sure like to hear from others who are printing with this printer and what papers they use for different subjects.

As an example, if I print in black and white, is there a paper than many find to be superior? Where do people us a glossy paper? Where is a matt finish used?

Thanks for any help and suggestions you can send my way.

Ron

Just for giggles and grins, try some water color paper from your local art store. I've used Arches Cold Press paper in my Epson, heavy and textured, loved the end product. Keep smiling :)

When I used to shoot a lot of 35mm I would take it to my local Walgreens. They did a reasonable job and the prints looked good.

Hey Will,
Good advice. I really miss my darkroom. (no room in the 5th wheel.)

Hear,Hear!! I agree. I have an old Minolta X-700. It was a great camera in it's day. In addition to full auto, there was aperture and shutter preferred modes, in addition to manual. I either used manual or auto, and still love my Calumet, folding. wooden field camera. Talk about "getting back to basics"!! Keep smiling

Has anybody out there in Hedgehog land fiddled with the idea of adapting a DSLR to a 4x5 camera?

That looks really great!! Keep it up. FYI, motion picture is 24 FPS and video is 30 FPS. To figure out how many seconds of "film" you have, just divide the total frames by either 24 or 30. I have used film cameras that ran 5000 frames per second. 200' of 16mm film didn't last very long :) Yep battery life was an issue with me. Shooting every 15 seconds, using a 2gb card I could go almost seven hours.

I was and still am interested in time lapse. I put together a little circuit with a solenoid to run my C-5050. Worked great! The best software I have found for putting one of these together can be found in Picassa. Easy to use and the best part, it's free. look at it and give it a shot. When Picassa finished I brought it into iMovie (Mac) and did my final editing. Transitions, music and tittles. Worked great and I wish you luck with your project, it can be a lot of fun. Keep smiling.

Cameras are like cars, some folks like Mercedes and others like VW's. It depends on personal taste and the intended use. I have used Nikon's, Canon, and Fuji's. Film, digital and even some home brewed things in between with motion picture cameras thrown in for good measure. Right now my only digital camera is an Olympus C-5050 P&S. It has served me well through the years, but now I look forward to the purchase of a DSLR. I want to get back to using a complete range of shutter speeds and f/stops (i'm old school] but have used auto when needed. If a "newbie" feels they need the latest and greatest, then go for it, but learn all the ins and outs of using one. In the mean time keep smiling.

I had to compromise years ago when I bought my first digital camera. Seeing as I had several decades of slides and negatives I opted for an Olympus C5050 and a Minolta film scanner. Although the camera has served me quite well for the past several years, it did not take long for me to realize it's short comings. I'm join to by my first DSLR and I look forward to expanding my horizons once again. In the mean time keep smiling.

You might be able to use an ethernet cross over cable. I've got one never used it. Just a thought. Using external drive (mentioned in another post I believe) would be the less complicated, plus it would give you redundancy(?).

Back "in the old days", I transitioned to PS 3. Initially it was a real pain. I locked myself in my office one day with the user manual and had at it. Went through the manual from to back, tried out everything. It was one of the best exercises that I could have done. Since then I have bought several books and continued my "education". Hang in there try different things, read the manual, and read the forum.
Keep Smiling!!
