Nikonian72, I thought the same thing the minute I got a glimpse of that rusted locomotive. I love the old steamers.

I did a little more thinking on the subject and tried something. Remembering that Nikon said the 35mm lens was the correct one to use for the 1.6 sensor to replace the 50mm used on a full size sensor I gave it a try. I ran the figures for a D700 and A D60 with the same setting, just different camera and focal length. F8 at 10 feet for both cameras. The D60 set at 35mm focal length and the D700 with a 50mm focal length. The depth of field figures while not exactly the same were very close. As they say close enough for government work. All you gentleman got me thinking about it and I thank each and every one of you for taking the time, and drawing on your vast knowledge to help me out.

When using the depth of field calculator on the home page do I enter the true focal length of my 35mm. lens for my Nikon D60 or do I enter 50mm.which is what it would be if I were using a camera with a full size sensor instead of a 1.6 sensor which the D60 has?

Sorry khansotte, I owe you an apology. I was giving the credit for your photo to another. Mea culpa.

Hi BBNC, To be truthful the intense blue came from setting the WB on Tungsten. It really does a lot for a blue sky. I liked your shot also. I love skies. They are great subjects for photography.

I would try to buy the simplest camera that will fill your needs. In my opinion a lot of camera makers add a lot of things that go unused just because they can do it and use it as a selling point. Technology for technologies sake doesn't make much sense. The simpler something is the less there is to go wrong with it and the easier it is to use.

I awoke one morning just at sunrise and caught this scene from my east bedroom window. I quickly opened up the window and snapped this. I was captivated by the suns rays reflecting straight up from another cloud.

Hi Fstop 12. Well when it came to coal Kodak was a prodigious user. I used to see trains coming by on The B&O Railroad with nothing but coal cars making up the whole train. Each car had a wide yellow stripe on the side. I asked a B&O employee about it and he said the whole train would be going to Kodak. He told me they used so much coal there that they even had a device that would turn the cars over so they could be unloaded quickly. These trains would pass by weekly. Unless you have seen it in it's heyday you can't imagine how immense the Kodak operation was. It took a lot of energy to keep it running.

if you have vibration reduction on your lens try shutting it off. It should be off when the camera is mounted on a tripod. This might help with the blurry pics.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that digital photography is an environmentally better process. Eastman Kodak is located about 25 miles from where I live and it has cost a fortune to clean up the contamination from decades of using film developing chemicals at their processing plant. Probably in the years ahead people will wonder how we got along with those clunky old digital cameras. Time marches on and so does technology. Embrace it.

Hi Carolstar22 An autopen is a machine used to duplicate a signature. It is used by the Presidents staff to write his signature on documents that don't require his signature by his hand. Greeting cards etc.

Kids haven't changed a lot over the years. I remember my mother telling me she would sit on the hood of my dads Model A Ford when she was about 16 and hold on to the radiator cap while he drove down the road as fast as the car would go. All I can say is you can only hope she makes it past this stage of life more or less in one piece. Sounds like she has been busted up enough for two or three lifetimes already.

Thanks to everyone for the posts and the great information. I like the way the foliage looks like in IR. Reminds me of looking at a tree after an ice storm.
