I once took a whole roll of film at a friend's wedding until I reached 40 then 41 pics....
There was no film in the camera. Brilliant, eh ?
An interesting ( and important ) fact to remember about photographing an eclipse ( sun ) is that a lot of intense light is concentrated onto a rather narrow area.
In extreme case, that has damaged digital camera sensors.
Sorry to hijack that thread here, as the moon is not nearly as bright as the sun.
I think that is a bit of info that is good to know nevertheless.
Cheers !
Great camera, I use a 7D as well.
You can let the ISO climb up to 3200 and still have very decent shots.
Great suggestion about setting the camera to shoot Multiple. That way, when you see a particularly nice composition, keep your finger on the trigger and shoot 20 pics or more.
Another suggestion for taking pics of small children is to be at their level. It means that you can try to be on the ground, on your stomach, so the camera is at the same height as their faces. You will get some really candid shots that way.
Intuitively, having the IS built in the camera makes more sense.
and you gain about 2 F-stops. ( 2 dimensions)
When each lens has its own IS system ( especially the IS-3 in the newer Canon lenses), you can gain up to 4 F-stops ( 3 dimensions).
Technically, the IS built into each lens is superior.
Here is one pic taken at the Raleigh fair a few weeks ago. I was at the top of the ferris wheel
those have been around the internet for a while now
A few months ago, I took pics of the full moon.
Lens was a Tamron 70-300 mm, speed was 1/250 sec at F5.6
No tripod, and I used spot metering, so the exposure was about right.
I think, with a tripod, the pic would have been a bit clearer

I can understand your restraint, and it is inexcusable for the other guys to simply walk in your spot.
That has happened to me once or twice, and being a bit cranky at times, I simply talked to them and told them I was there first and intended to finish my shoot without them being there.
Maybe being a martial artist gives me more confidence, as I was not looking for a fight, but I was not about to give up a great spot with the perfect light.
