Rude "Professional" Photographers!

I couldn't believe last weekend... I was out shooting a session at a local park. A beautiful place with fall foliage, a river, a tranquil stream leading into a river.. even a nice stone bridge. So there I was enjoying my session when I was invaded by three other "Professional" photographers with clients, that actually walked right in front of me while shooting and proceeded to set up there shots! I ended up moving not wanting to cause a scene and it happened again with another photographer. The third time we just left as I did not want to show my anger in front of my client and her children. I understand business but if It had been me I could never imagine doing that to another photographer. It is RUDE and INCONSIDERATE! To me that location is in use. That would be no different than me walking onto a set, moving their model and putting mine in place.. has this happened to anyone else? Next time I will take action even if I have to remove them from my shot...

That was very rude.... I'm not so sure I wouldn't have brought it to their attention myself.... I would have stood there until he noticed me and then held my arms out to the side as if to say WTF?
You handled it very well ... even though you were annoyed by them ... kudos :)

I would have done the same thing. Sometimes I just don't understand people.

You handled it better than I would have. I would have asked them to move and failure on their part to comply would have rendered me in their photos till they left. I have unintentionally got in front of someones camera, apologized and moved and that same courtesy has been afforded me but I cannot imagine someone (ESPECIALLY A PROFESSIONAL) setting up right in front of another persons shoot.

Well like I said I had my client who wasnt really aware of the problem.. didnt want to scare them. Ive never really had a problem but to have it happen 3 times in one day just amazes me!

Yes and I make my point known by asking for their card and emailing a letter explaining their obvious lack of proper upbringing in the courtesy area. Your very right to not show your anger displeasure with the clients. You may explain how the act was unprofessional and that is why they hired you and move on.

I agree with you. If you are a paid "Pro" than act like one and treat others as such.
I would have been a little steamed by the 3rd encounter and would have said "done for the day" as well. It would have been hard for me to not say anything when my clients were out of view.
To the one who started this thread -CUDOS for not acting like an idiot and sinking to a lower standard. At least your clients didn't leave with a folw taste of you and you can posible get better shots of them next time.

I can't say that you did the wrong thing. Maintaining your cool is probably a good thing.
I would at least have been tempted to "stand up for my client" and in a civil manner mentioned to the other "pro" that I was already there shooting and that if they would allow me a few minutes, I will finish and let them proceed.
Hopefully, they would respect this, but if not, I would express my concern in front of their customer, that they were not being "professional" at all; and then I'd leave as you did.

This is like being at a golf course and if other people want to, they at least ask permission to "play through" before just doing it.

I watched Larrys Fishing Adventure's, a local Oregon show in the 80s, come downstream and kick an elderly man and his grandson out of a fishing hole on the Sandy river.I was shocked and it was by no means a pretty sight. Some people just don't get it do they.

It's no wonder that a lot of photographers scout out and find their own locations and then (for the most part) wont devulge their locations to other photographers.
I know that locally, most of the photographers that I know hate to photograph at a certain park anymore. It's a beautiful place to visit; very picturesque. The trouble two-fold. 1) everyone shoots there, and 2) if you want something unique, it's best to find an alternate site that offers the same picturesque surroundings, but isn't as well known by other photographers (pro or amateur).

I think you handled it very professionally by not causing a scene in front of your client. I agree that some people don't have any tact. Sometimes people are oblivious, but from my experience, photographers really pay attention to the space around them so they probably noticed you and just didn't care.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago when I was taking some shots of my own kids. My Mom and I were discussing how I was going to set up a shot with the kids and another photographer was within "earshot". She immediately had her clients get up from where they were and move to the spot my Mom and I were setting up and started shooting the exact shot we were talking about! She totally ran in front of us as we were walking to the spot. We did what you did and just went on to something else and let them have the space. No use starting a fight.

If it had been just me and not with my clients I would have probably just gently shoved em out of the way after a few choice words but I was thinking totally of my clients well being.. luckily where Im at I have many options... next time will be different!

Big Daddy, if you look anything like your avatar, I think they'd be afraid to piss you off.
