I agree with you. Also the sun to his back always is going to produce some pretty flat lighting. Seems like he could be missing out on side lit images that may produce more pleasing light.

The topic says it all.

On iAuto I press the shutter button part way and it focuses, then fires when pressed down.
On P, etc, I press the shutter button part way and it focuses, then I press more and it thinks about it for a second, then fires.

Have I set something weird?

Could iAuto be boosting up your iso to compensate for not enough light, and that's not happening in P?

Yes, I’m obsessive about having a hot shoe cover. I even paid $40 for for a special one for my Z6.

Good thing there was no markup on it.

I like them. It adds a finishing touch to the camera, rather than it looking like you’ve left something at home or in your bag. You can buy generic ones (a plastic bag of several) on eBay for little money.

I don't have/use a hot shoe cover.
But now I have four on order, grin.
I do have a Nikon film 4004 which came with an eye cup viewer cover.
It was made to attach to the neck strap and used for long exposures to keep out extraneous light.

I think the eye cup covers have a shorter lifespan than the hot shoe covers!

I have not used the ones that came with the camera.
Except for the AE-1 which stayed with the camera as it was the eyepiece cover as well.

Thanks for the reply

All of my Nikons have come with a hot shoe cover, at least so far. I do use them, simply because the contacts are a direct connection to the “Computer” that is the heart of the camera. I have had numerous issues with “Murphy’s Law” over the past 80+ years, although not necessarily with the hot shoe, but I try not to tempt fate if at all possible. Not sure if a simple drop of water on the contacts would cause an issue with the camera. So with that, I use the covers.

Makes sense.
