I took these early this morning with my SX50. I wanted to show how close this camera can get (as long as nothing is moving). No cropping-handheld.

I own a Canon, with an 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm lens. I am thinking about what lens I should buy next. I was thinking an 18-135mm, because it would cover the gap between the 2 lenses I already have. But I really enjoy macro photography, so would another lens be a better choice?

15mm gap is not worth buying a lens. A good macro lens is your best bet. Skip the short ones as they are not as versatile as the longer lenses. You want some distance between you and the subject. Sigma make a good 150mm.

..is the question. Both shots taken with the same camera....lens and settings. Only difference is using the on-camera flash.

Definitely #2. I like the even lighting and detail although I would have increased the saturation a bit.

Nothing out there like this. Just got it
Awesome lens

Based on what I have read, it beats some top primes in its range. Post some pictures.

Superzoom lenses are getting longer and longer, now we're upto X50. Unless you are into wildlife or astronomy I can see little point in using massive zoom lenses.
I am mostly interested in landscapes, street scenes and architecture for which I have a 38 mm Prime lens and a 28 - 84 mm zoom. I use the prime lens 95% of the time, and only use the zoom lens when I need a wider angle.
I am ready to be enlightened, John

Apparently super-zooms are not for you.

I just got and Lumix FZ60 (24X) and I'm impressed. It can't compete with my DSLRs but it so much more versatile and a whole lot of fun to use. The image quality is surprising good.

I have been considering upgrading from a Canon d60 to a d6 but read on another photo site that full frame cameras are difficult to use for landscape photos when you want depth of field and a clear focus on close subjects as well as subject matter focused in the distance. Has this been the experience of photographers shooting landscapes who have gone from a cropped to full-frame body?

I'm not so sure that there is much practical difference between DX & FX image quality for landscapes providing you have good equivalent lenses to get the same image size and cameras of similar quality.

I am looking to purchase a point and shoot camera for my 86 year old parents.
I have $150 to spend, and I am so confused by reviews by people who have purchased that said camera.
Canon, Nikon and Samsung seem to be the best, maybe not. I though of also using AA or AAA batteries for operation, maybe not.
My dad uses a computer for basically emails and my mother has a ipad. I often use the program called "TeamViewer" to assist them when any problem arise. I am very computer literate, and cameras was a past time. I would like to buy it locally @ Best Buys or maybe another local store. Best Buys seems to have the largest selection.
Any help here would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,

I do primarily wild life photos. I picked up an ef 300mm usm lens. And was going to use a 2x doubler on it.
Here's the quandary, The ad states that the af will work with 2.8 and faster lenses. So, does that mean the af will fritz out with say a 4.0?
Or is it that it just has a time searching for focus?
Like most of us here, I can't just run out an blow 2 or 3 grand on glass. I don't mind fooling around a bunch to get my shots with adapters, doublers and such. I have my tripod and the light is always good when I go for my shots.
Any ideas?

It will work on a f4 lens but you will loose some IQ. A 1.4 is a better option.

Just curious about how some hoggers approach this subject:
The other day at our monthly computer club, someone stated they pass by without reading any reply that's quite long, when reading messages on our web site.
In applying this same practice to time spent on the Hog, I wonder how many will actually by-pass the longer comments here, in favor of the shorter ones? I realized that I'm one who sometimes will do that and I wondered if it's typical. How about you? Just curious.....
