Love the feet! Congratulations, you found the missing link in the evolution of reptile to bird!

Here is another shout out for the cam ranger. I use it with a Canon and it works very well. I like to show some portrait clients the images as they are taken. I can also control the camera from the iPad in a live view mode.
  Works well with Nikon D5300 on my iPad, MacBook Pro, Kindle Fire HD & Samsung S-4 Android phone.

I have even bought an external drive reader to pull the hard drive out of the PC, but I haven't tried that, as I'm not sure I can read the hard drive on a Mac.
If the external drive reader you mention is an empty housing with a USB cable, then just pull the hard drive out of the laptop and put it inside. It's really easy, the drive is usually under a cover on the bottom of the laptop, with a few screws holding it in place. The enclosure will probably have two screws holding it's cover on. Remove them and slide the cover off. Then the drive can be inserted. Just plug it into your Mac, my MacBook Pro has no problem reading the drive from my Sony Vaio.
Be sure to unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery. Then touch bare metal on the computer to discharge static electricity before touching the drive. You can also buy a wrist strap to discharge the static.
Your charging problem may be with the DC power jack on the the laptop. That's the receptacle that the AC adapter plugs into.
I bought a replacement from Amazon for $14.95. Very easy to install on the Sony. I've replaced others that required soldering, which is a little more difficult. Google "dc power jack repair" and you may be able to find a local place to have it done. There are also several places you can UPS it to that will do it for around $75.00.
If your external drive reader isn't an enclosure, you can get one from Amazon or Fry's for $8.00 - $30.00. There are lots of how to videos online explaining how to do these things.
Good luck, Tom

Starting to seriously think about a larger telescope
...someday. I'll keep trying with this one for the time being.
Wow, that's beautiful! What telescope and camera are you using? Are you hitchhiking on the ISS or Hubble?

Yeah, I've been seeing lots of before & after pictures from out there. It seems a bit late to start conserving, and people are complaining about it. They go to the sink and get water. What's the problem? Pictures like this show the problem. Better planning fifty years ago might have made a difference.
They keep voting this guy in: Edmund Gerald "Jerry" Brown Jr. is an American attorney, politician and member of the Democratic Party who has served as the 39th Governor of California since 2011, having previously served as California's 34th Governor from 1975 to 1983.
And he only seems interested in leaving this as his legacy:

I think this is for a limited time, but the price of the D750 has dropped to $1,999.95. I have one due to arrive today - at the old price. I'll call the dealer when they open. They'll either give me credit, or I'll return it.
From a Nikon email, it goes until April 25:

Remember when the max on an IBM PC was 640k?
When we bought our first computer at the Sears Computer Store in Pasadena, I deferred to my wife's expert opinion. After all, she had taken several computer classes at UCLA where she actually programed on punch cards. She insisted we only needed one floppy and no hard drive on our original IBM PC. The only upgrade worth the money was going from 64K to 128K of memory. As soon as it was available, I put a 20MB HDD on a card in one of the expansion slots, beginning a long string of computer upgrades and replacements, not to mention a lifetime of workarounds to my beloved wife's expert opinion. But to be fair, she does the same with me! :)
