Nice photos! But all that meat out with no refrigeration would make me nervous.

Thank you Gary, glad you liked the photos. There might have been refrigeration in the butcher shop in the first frame, but certainly not for the rest. These meat shops always made me nervous too, and my wife would never buy the meat in the market, fruits and veggies yes, but not meat, for that we went to a Western style supermarket.

Nicely photographed set Joe, showing the local butcher shops and markets. I have to admit though that some of whats on display doesn't look to appealing to me.

Thank you Vince, glad you found this set interesting, like you I wouldn't touch some of these offerings, but is is interesting to see what gets sold.

This final post of the Wan Chai market brings us to the ever-present green vegetables that make up a considerable and important part of the daily food intake for the locals. We also see a stall having eggs on display, including the impressively, but of course incorrectly named "Thousand Year Eggs", which are really eggs that have been preserved by soaking them in a brine of salt and lye. They are considered a delicacy in this part of the world. I finish this post and our visit to Wan Chai off with a couple of images of a shop sign, window display at a gold shop and an interesting sign for a local "double decker tram" stop.

About '74 thru '80

That could have worked - you basically have our gap years there, we got married in HK in 1971, then moved to Canada and moved back to Hong Kong in 1979. But we spent a month of vacation in HK in late fall 1975 and then were permanently there from September 1979 on - until 1984. Those were interesting times when HK was in full swing with great expansion projects, land reclamations, etc. - and no thoughts of handing HK back to China yet. Also, the international banks were moving in (that's what I was there for) so things were very positive. - Good shared memories, Chief!

Maybe we walked past each other on the street there once upon a time!

Who knows Chief, everything is possible - what years would you have been out there?

Excellent ( and healthy!) selection, Joe! You did your best!

Thanks Eugene - the praise goes to the shop keepers for doing the great layouts of these healthy subjects, I was just lucky to capture the moment!
