Orion, a place that draws a newcomer as a moth is drawn to flame and light.

I have long followed the complexity and challenge presented by this forum in particular and have at long last realized that technology has been changing and what was once very difficult (likely impossible for me) has become at least approachable. So I decided to learn and expand my frontiers by seeing what I could see.

Recipe:
Thirty exposures at 180 seconds each, 20 @ 90s, 10 @ 15s.
Old Canon 400mm lens plus 1.4 extender
ZWO AM5 mount
ASI2600MC-Duo camera
ASIAir computer to control the mount and camera
pixInsight software to stack and edit and then input into PS for more play
and half a moon under dark Maine skies

Excellent image of Orion and the Running Man. I have to agree with you about the moth/flame statement. Orion is still my favorite subject.

Since moving to Idaho Falls I have wanted to photograph this temple from the front. I have posted a few photos across the Snake River toward the back but not any from the front I can recall. While driving past a couple of days ago I noticed the lighting was perfect for a high key photograph, I think that is what it is called, where the color of the sky closely matched the color of the temple. I went home to get my Sony RX10IV and tripod and came back. I only live about six blocks from the temple so it isn't as if photo opportunities do not present themselves often.

While taking photos of the temple I noticed a man and his wife walking toward one of the entrances. I greeted them and asked if they would please be in one of my photos for the human interest part. They said they would love to do that. Yes I have sent them photos for their kindness.

I hope you enjoy these photos. Comments for and against are welcome.

Nice views of the Temple. Don't forget to stop at Carstens Bakery next to the Vogue Beauty College on Cliff St and Shoup Ave. I would get my pastry fix while waiting to get my hair cut next door.

If a person doesn't like the weather, wait a few days. If you don't like the climate, wait a few hundred years...it will change.

Nice sharp images and your filter creation works well. Also probably easy to remove at totality. Thousand Oaks has quality products.

Thanks Mike. She can look mean but the only danger a person would be in would be having her lick you to death. She is by far the most affectionate dog I have ever had.

We are due to see the upcoming total eclipse soon. I am interested in getting a few shots of it. I have no knowledge concerning the filter required to do this. I don't wont to spend a lot of money since this will probably be a one time thing. I would appreciate any advise or information. Thanks.

Sam

Thousand Oaks has been my go to source for years.

Nice topside and underbelly photos of my favorite airshow team. The KC 135 looks like it's had an engine upgrade. 👍👍👍

LOL! But that sun's reflection off the moon is darned bright!

It was bright enough last night to have all the local coyotes and wolves out hunting and howling, along with our dogs answering. A very noisy night in the Nitchi valley.

I love hearing their singing, but from a distance.

I've always wanted one of those scopes, but then I'd be up day and night. I'll let you catch the daytime shots, as the sun isn't very bright at night.

Good job. You caught a lot of detail in that image.

One concern that comes to mind is, what filter are you using for the homemade scope and where are you attaching it? You will be busy with three devices and getting timing down on the one camera. They would all have to have tracking mounts to help keep the sun centered. Sounds like you're going to have a good time.

Because there will soon be a solar eclipse with a path of totality that will be very close to us, my wife and I both would like to see it. In preparation for the event I made purchase of special eclipse filter glasses for us and special filters for my cameras. Today to experiment and practice geting an exposure of the sun, I placed a filter on one camera and took the attached photo of the bright sun.

The photo is not perfect, far from it, but I wanted to get an idea of starting exposure settings. I think I am close but will need a bit more practice and experimenting. The attached image is SOOC except cropped closely and saved as a jpeg for posting here. It was not easy aiming and centering, That will improve as I practice, I hope.

Good start. After you get focus and exposure correct, You might set your camera to mirror lockup and 2 second delay if it's a DSLR. If mirrorless, it should be easy to get the exposure and focus correct in the display screen, but still set a delay for the shutter.

Maybe they should just hook wires to the north and south ends of the Salton Sea, then you would have a great battery 😎😎😎, JTOTB
