Wife and I took a drive to the very far north west corner of Utah yesterday to look for migrating hawks. A farmer was mowing a large hay field and this attracted a number of opportunistic raptors. It was a beautiful day and I managed to snap some photos of Red-tail, Swainson, Rough-legged and Kestrel hawks along with this juvenile Prairie Falcon. Posting some of the Prairie Falcon now and will do the others in separate posts later. Spent an enjoyable hour watching him swoop and dive on prey. He would swoop flying low to the ground when approaching prey unlike the other hawks that tended to glide in on prey. However, the only decent photos I was able to get were on a power pole and are heavily cropped...I couldn't get as close to him as the other hawks would allow.

Nice shots, I'm looking forward to seeing the others!

A beautiful photo of a beautiful bird. A new bird for me, thank you. I looked it up in three good field guides and yours is a superior specimen photo. Nice work!
Phil

I second that!

i think this may be my best bufflehead shot ever... the reflected colors and texture of the water, the light, the iridescence on the little guy's head... i love it when it all comes together like this! taken from about 25 feet away...

Fabulous shot that drew me in to look at your website...which is even more fantastic! I've been enjoying your Birds 'n Bees for the last hour and look forward to browsing through the rest in the morning. Great photography! Thank you!!!

This beautiful big girl put on quite the show for me and a few other photographers this morning. She caught three fish and returned to a nearby tree to eat them, then neatly wiped her bill on the branch after finishing each one. Lake Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

She is beautiful and it's great to see that she flosses!

This is going to take some experimenting.
Here is the first effort
Canon T2i IR modified with Tamron 150-600mm
f/6.4 ISO 100 25 second exposure

I'm enjoying your experiment. The downloads are great. Now that i've invested in Nikon, I'm seeing that Canon might have been the better move for astrophotography.

I dunno, I just wonder if I have engaged the subject and projected that engagement to the viewer?

Good thing he's wearing those aviator sunglasses or you might have blinded him! But seriously, they're great shots. Beautiful eyes!
