You don't own a cat, they own you. I think I like my girlfriend's dog better, he's always happy to see everybody... Good luck!

Living in SE Louisiana kinda know about hurricanes starting with Betsy in 1965 thru Katrina in 2005. These storms are not nice. Take care and lets us know how you made out.

Were you in the part of Slidell that flooded bad? Unfortunately I've been living with hurricanes since the one in 1946, but only remember the one in 1948 on. Got married the November after Betsy so had trouble getting furniture. We also lost 4 cars and it was hard to replace them too.

got the chest freezer filled to the brim, plenty food though I could probably live for a month on my stored body fat. worst thing now is cant sleep from all the worrying and it is not arrived yet

If you loose power I suggest you don't open that freezer. Things will stay frozen longer if you don't open it. Then again if you are all electric like I am you won't be able to cook it or heat it up. If power is off for a long time don't open it because it will stink. A lot of people just taped their freezers and refrigerators shut with duck tape and put it out for pickup.

Agree on what tsunamis are though they call them that here when caused by a storm surge have had 3 of those since I moved here also only 1 came to our door but stopped just short of causing water damage.and that was when we lived right across the street from the beach.

Places that had never flooded before flooded after Katrina and Rita. Please be cautious.

Wont risk my life but will try and get out there to record the aftermath

The aftermath will not photograph like it really is. We saw the aftermath of Katrina on tv while we were in Memphis. When we came home and saw it with our own eyes it was much worse. I was working for a credit union at the time and the people who suffered more than anyone else was the elderly. They had to start all over again.

Will keep you in my prayers. Been through Katrina then Rita right behind. My youngest son & his wife at the time had put things on the 2nd floor of their house just incase it flooded. Well they had 18 feet of water and lost everything. Their clothes were hanging high enough that they weren't in the water, but they couldn't get in until 3 weeks later. Well that humidity let the bar bend and all of their clothes fell into a nasty mix of mud, water and God only knows what else. Stinky mud that crunched when you walked on it was everywhere. The entire parish (what we call counties)was flooded. We lived in St. Bernard Parish for over 30 years, but thankfully we had moved a couple of years before those hurricanes hit and we sold my mothers house just a few months before they hit. The good Lord took care of us.

Your own external hard drives may be your best bet, or perhaps even actual prints of your most valuable work - placed in a bank vault storage box to somewhat diminish the possibility of loss through fire or flood.

Don't count on a bank vault. They are not waterproof. I was working for a bank when Katrina hit. We had to ship the wet money in hazmat bags. With the money in a tamper evident bag then in the hazmat bag things started growing and moving around on the money.

Thank you all for your efforts. The links are very interesting. I'm going to keep on researching it. The camera is very special to me. With having to mark everything with my name when I went to camp Mama had bought some tags with my name on it. It came like a long ribbon. She had put some of it along the handle. It is still on there. Just took a second look at the pictures and you can see it around the handle.

I have a camera that was my dad's so it means the world to me. I was very happy when he let me take it to Girl Scout camp. No instruction book with it, but hand written instructions for some of the settings. Also in the case was the paperwork when it came into the USA 1948. My dad worked loading ships that came to New Orleans on the Mississippi and often was given things by the ships captains. One time he brought me a pizza off of an Italian ship. It was nasty to me. Didn't taste anything like what we have in the US. Anyway I'd appreciate any information one of you may be able to give me. Well it looks like I don't know how to attach pictures. HELP!

I have been wanting to upgrade from my point and shoot sony h2. Dang thing almost hit the wall several times but made it since 2007. I would try to take the picture and nothing but beeping from the camera. We'll anyways I've been looking at the t5i as my upgrade. I research day and night but I am having a hard time deciding on what package to go for. Max budget would be 1000. I shoot lots of family pics with our two boys but love to take scenic pics.

I am stuck between these three options to start my journey:

1. 18-55 and 55-250 STM $949
2. 18-135 STM $949
3. 18-55 and 50 1.8 $875 and get a good zoom later.

I just have to jump and get this in the mail so I can sleep again and not stay up all night watching YouTube and reading reviews...:). I am going to take a class once I get the thing to use it correctly.

Thanks for any advise/suggestions you guys have. What a great forum for those of us just starting out. Thank you.
David
I have been wanting to upgrade from my point and s... (show quote)

Last May 5 days before we left for our 2+ month trip I received your #1 from Amazon. I'm still learning how to use it even though I've taken around 3,000 pictures with it. Some are great IMHO but some need to be done away with. I truly love my t5i. There were times that I wished that I had a lens that was a mix of the 2 lenses that came with the camera. Even though I'm new to this I think I got some nice shots. Maybe I'll look into another lens later. We just got back home today.

I have been right-eyed all my life. About two years ago, i suffered detachment of the hyaloid membrane which has degraded the sight in that eye. Although I can still see, my right eye is useless for manual focusing and for composing. I am having to retrain myself to use my left eye; it is not easy. Imagine a right handed person having to learn to write or throw with the left hand. Now imagine doing it at 70+ years of age.

I have pretty much the same problem. With both eyes open I see everything, but with just my right eye open I have a large area that is distorted. Then with just my left eye open I have a smaller area that just isn't there. The dr. asked "can you see this". I said, see what? So I have got to use my left eye. It feels strange. I'm doing it at 69 years as I have just gotten back in taking pictures.

Your yard does look nice and I'm sure it took a lot of work. I'm usually out in the garden this time of the year. But not this year because of the surgery I had on my hand almost 3 months ago. Working in the garden probably helped cause the problem with my hand. According to my occupational therapist my right hand is very strong, it's the left one that had the surgery. I know it's strong from gardening. Had a trigger finger on that hand a few years ago and the first question they asked me was if I do any gardening. We have 5 1/2 acres for me to play with.

I was going out to work in my garden. Hubby had the radio on and by what I heard I knew something was wrong. I ran back into the motorhome and turned the tv. What I saw I just couldn't believe. A couple of years we went to the museum in Oklahoma City. We couldn't help but cry.
