Have em both ... can't say which one I like better. If I have to pick one I'd go with the 5d3. Depends on if you want FF or CF.

With new Nikon SLR camera came the standard nylon strap. Looking for a better new one. My old one is shot, the covering on the outside is delaminating. I liked it because it was stretchy (dense foam rubber inside with slick nylon outside) and adsorbed the shocks caused by the camera weight. But it was a bit narrow. Came with a couple of pockets for my cf cards which was handy. Don't want to spend a fortune on the new one but can spend a few bucks for one that will last. Guess you could say I want a Mercedes for the price of a VW.

I traded all of my EF-S lenses toward my 5D as they don't compare to the L lenses.

Agreed ..... I only carry L lenses. They're worth it.

Then 24-105 will be a good match with your 100-400. Not that there's anything wrong with the 18-135 .....

Thank you so much for the links. I have checked them out and am still contemplating. I do not have a FF yet so do you think I am jumping the gun buying this lens now and using it with my 70D CF in anticipation of getting a FF in the future......should I just be patient and get it when I get a FF? Thank you.

What are you shooting with currently on your 70D? I went from the 28-135 to the 24-105 about 4 years ago on the 7d, a crop frame, and have never looked back. This is a great walk around lens on either a cf or a ff.

Any suggestions on lenses and filters to bring on a trip to India.

I go there twice a year ..... I leave my 5d3 and all the other lenses behind and carry the 7d2 now (used to be carry the 7d) and the 24-105 and that covers most situations. As with all travel, watch your gear. Enjoy your trip as it's a wonderful country to visit and there are countless photo ops. You'll be amazed at the diversity available to shoot.

What s your timeframe for the trip?

Thanks everyone for your valuable input. I have always thought if it seems to good to be true it is. But who doesn't want to save money. It does seem like there are hundreds of white box lenses which is what makes me suspicious. I know they say that it was a lens with a 5D but how can there be that many of them out there? I spoke to Canon this morning and they say that unless you have a receipt for the purchase of the lens you can't get it repaired for free even if there is a warranty card. I think I will just make a purchase from B&H or my local Camera store or maybe from an individual with a 100% rating on eBay or from Amazon to be on the safe side. Thanks again everyone.

CPW has this listed at $643 refurbed, directly from Canon with a 1 year warranty and at $630 new from a seller with US Warranty. Good luck.

I bought mine about 4 years ago on ebay as a white box item split from a kit and have used this exclusively as my go to walk around lens. Couldn't have been happier with the lens.

I am looking to upgrade my old Canon. I am interested in the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. I do some sports photography for 2 local papers. I have also looked at the Canon 70D, Canon 7D, and the Canon 6D. They seem to be pretty close, some have WIFI, some not. Better shutter speed on the 7D Mark II. I welcome all thoughts!! IF you all had to pick, which one?

I recently upgraded my 7d to the 7d2 and am very happy with the results. It's nearly almost comparable to my 5d3 with the extra reach. But then you really can't expect it to give you the results you get from the 5d3.

It holds higher iso's very well. A plus to have in terms of it's use for action sports shots giving you a more versatile range to play with in your selection of increased aperture while keeping the shutter speed to your liking and needs of action.

The 7DmkII dominates the BOTTOM of it's class in every respect but one. It's at the top of the class in terms of price...

Image quality is behind offerings from Sony, Nikon, Pentax, and Samsung.

Video is terrible compared to all the others.

Autofocus is behind the Sony and Samsung.

The technology used in the 7DII is 2.5 years out of date.

But I am loving every shot I take on it ....couldn't be happier!

Believe the hype all you want, but the 7DmkII is NOT as good as its contemporaries. Not even CLOSE.

I checked out the Sigma and it looks like it's $1199 for IS & f2.8, the Tamron is $1399 for IS % f2.8, but they have the non IS version for $796 also. Many have said go with the F2.8 lens but what about the Canon f2.8 non IS at $1349 vs. the Sigma ($1199) & Tamron ($1399) IS versions ? Thanks again!

If you're looking at moving into this range then perhaps you should look at the first version of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. It can be had refurbished direct from the Canon store for around 1350, when in stock. That would undoubtedly better any of the other choices you're looking at. And occasionally they even run a 15% off sale on those. You just have to keep an eye on it.

I went to a local high school scrimmage basketball game the other night that I have taken pictures of in the past to try out my new 7D ii. I shoot with 24-70 & 70-200 lenses at 2.8 and that night I used ISO's of 6400 and 3200. I was pleased with the pictures but was not sure about the auto-focus as some times I got sharp pictures of the defenders and the ball handlers were a little blurred. In setting up the AF it was different than the 7D and I'd appreciate suggestions on AF settings especially in shooting in dark gyms. Thanks.

We are spending a week in Maui the first part of April. This is my first trip there and my first trip with something other than a P&S. I do not want to take more than needed but, don't want to need something and not have it.

I want one relatively small bag to carry with me on the plane.

This is what I'm thinking so far....

D800e over D7100 (I'm guessing with all the landscape that FF would be preferable over APS-C)?
Renting the 28-300 (very good all round lens but, not the best)
Taking my 150 just incase there's some nice macro opportunities and critical sharp shots.
50-f1.4 manual or 50-f1.8AF for more critically sharp shots.
Speedlite
At least 128GB memory shooting raw only.
And of course all the little misc. filters, batteries, cleaning stuff, etc....and of course everything will be covered with insurance.

Two GoPros and accessories will be in the luggage.

Can anyone who's "been there, done that", suggest any other options to keep things minimal without too much compromise?

Thanks, Bill H.

Returned from there recently, carried the 5d3, 7d, 70-200 2.8ii, 24-105 and the 16-35 2.8. Found that the 7d and the 70-200 got the least use and could have traveled lighter without them. I prefer to have more options with me than I need.

YES, that's what I was saying, this was last week's deal that I missed by dragging my feet. I was merely referencing the link as someone else had questioned that it was indeed offered. I am in no hurry and will wait as Buydig, tends to repeat their offers every once in a while.
