For me, I like to print large, thus there is no substitute for a big Epson. That said, my 44" printing width 9600 is getting a little long in the tooth, as they say, and so my next printer might just be a 24" later Epson model. I have the Epson 3880, which makes a fine general photo printer.

What we are all talking about is the Digital Darkroom. When setting up for inkjet ( AKA "giclee" ) printing costs far less than a good lens for an enlarger in the olde world of the chemical darkroom... Being a photographer with full Digital Darkroom makes a huge amount of sense.

I think it is interesting that back in the film days, when the 50mm 1.8 was the standard kit lens for many SLRs, it was a commonly held belief that it really wasn't all that useful. Detractors contended that it wasn't long enough for a good portrait lens, nor wide enough for a good landscape lens. A "do-nothing" lens that masqueraded as a "do everything" lens. These days it seems to have increased in favor. I think Rockwell states (somewhere) that it's his absolute favorite walk around lens (probably the faster 1.4 though), and others routinely rave about great lenses in this class. What happened?

Hi Chuck,
I have just purchased a Carryspeed FS-Slim F-1 strap which has a flat plate so you can use it on your shoulder but also put it on a tripod without removing the strap. Look at www.carryspeed.com for details. I live in UK but purchased it from USA and it only took about 4 days. Carriage was $10 but it is free in USA. Worth having a look at anyway. There are lots of videos about it. I got the one with the foldable mounting plate.

Regards

I'm with you ..i also use a carryspeed, the pro and also the slim..caint beat em...

I'm hoping someone here will have some info for a friend of mine. He sent me this message this afternoon:

"Do you know of any inexpensive film (negatives) scanners ?

Most of the reviews I have read are fairly bad…"

I have no experience in this area, so I know he would appreciate any help ...

Thanks everyone

Currently using Tamron 10-24mm. Reviews seem to agree

that images are not very sharp.

Tokina 11-16. (F/2.8 vs F/3.5) Reviews seem to agree images are sharp.

Use: Landscapes, Seascrapes, Cityscapes.

Anyone using either lens and/or does upgrading to the Tokina make sense?

I have the Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8(If) DX mounted on my D300... only ultra wide I ever owned.. I do have a nikkor 16-85 zoom which stays mount on my d3100... they both are really nice...
