Just wondering how the group feels about neck straps vs other carrying straps.

I do a lot hiking with my Canon Mark 5, so I purchased one of the full loop, over the shoulder straps, that's suppose to position the camera at waist level by your hand. Trouble was the strap had a buckle right where the camera slide would catch everytime I would try to bring the camera up to eye level.

any thoughts?

I know the link below is to a UK store, but this may be of interest to you.

I must admit that I do not like walking around with my camera hanging round my neck and if it is over my shoulder the strap tends to slip off. I have not bought this yet, but I am seriously thinking about buying it.

It has the advantage, I think, because the quick fix plate is permanently attached to the camera that the camera can quickly be attached to a tripod or monopod, assuming you have the right head on the Tri/mono pod.

I do not use the strap with the product name on it. They don't compensate me.!

I can't carry my camera with the neck strap for any length of time. The best money I have spent is on an OPtech USA harness. It makes all the difference in the world when I have to carry my camera for any length of time. The one I have has room for two cameras, I usually hang my water bottle or another lens on the other side.

I prefer the ThinkTank holsters. Really built to last and protect. Their padded belt looks dorky, but for a long day
it is pure comfort. Customer service is awesome. 5 years usage. Oh, and I never remove the camera without slipping on the wrist strap.

Having bought a Sun Sniper strap I have never looked back. As a bird photographer with binoculars around my neck, this combo ensures my camera is always ready for action, which usually carries a Canon 400mm lens. The weight is forgotten when connected to the strap.

Turn the strap so the buckle is on your back and it won't interfere. Mine also has two adjustable pinch stops that can be, if bothersome moved out of the way.

I am on a hike nearly every day with my camera...I use the Cotton Carrier Strap Shot. It is great, the camera does not bounce around, it stays snug and since it is attached to my pack's shoulder strap it stays clear of anything along the trail. If I want I can let the camera hang at hand level with the safety lanyard

Been using OpTech for maybe 4 years. Can hang the camera straight down hanging on my shoulders, under either arm; can switch off as I want.
Have also hung the camera under one arm and my monopod under the other; have yet to try the tripod.

I use a black rapid and hike a lot too. However, when I'm hiking to a particular place, my camera is in a pack. When I arrive, I use the strap. If carrying a tripod, I will strap it to the pack or carry it, shortened, over my shoulder.

Hi Chuck,
I have just purchased a Carryspeed FS-Slim F-1 strap which has a flat plate so you can use it on your shoulder but also put it on a tripod without removing the strap. Look at www.carryspeed.com for details. I live in UK but purchased it from USA and it only took about 4 days. Carriage was $10 but it is free in USA. Worth having a look at anyway. There are lots of videos about it. I got the one with the foldable mounting plate.

Regards

Gerry
