This is perhaps a taboo subject on the Hog. And I am prepared to receive as many lashes as are required. Are there any other Photo forums that hoggers enjoy, and are pleasant to use. (not Canon which I have tried). Thanks for any info. I will not abandon UHH just curious.

I am a Canon user. I like the way they feel in my hand. When I bought my first one in '82, I looked at them all.

This is the first forum I have joined of any kind.

It's good that I have thick, tough skin. I think a few members here tried to run me off. I stood my ground.

I am assuming you don't like Canon's forum. May I ask why? I'm not judging. Just trying to learn from other people.

Thanks for asking your original question. I didn't know all those others existed.

I vote color. It has a certain punch or life that that is not in the B&W, like the difference in shade or hue between the disc and the building. It's there in color but gets washed out of the B&W.

I bought Corel X8 Home & Student version for the word processor and data base. It included Corel After Shot 2. While playing with that one night, an ad for a free version of Adobe Photo Shop Express popped up on my screen. Humm, Free, try it. I am by no means an expert. I don't have an expensive computer system. And I have very limited time in all my post processing efforts. That includes Canon, Picasa, the program included with Vista (yes, Windows Vista). Being newly retired and just really starting to PP, i am leaning towards the Adobe Photoshop Express. From one beginner to another. Take this advise with a grain of salt, and don't bet the house on it.

I'm usually not a fan of opening a post to an address, and I usually close them straight away. But this was definitely worth the look.

I just want to know if you carried that lens you are proudly holding on any of your three motorcycles.

Last week while mowing, I followed two adult geese escorting nine chicks across the yard. Several yards behind them were two pair of adults walking along, looking around like they're thinking, "Yea, they've got the kids, we can relax." Then they flew away.
As I approached the south end of the property, there were four more pair of adults walking care free. As I approached, they flew off in pairs. I have to think that geese, just like humans, take turns watching the kids so the others can have some free time to fly, or whatever.
I think geese have only one or two young at a time. Probably the same for swans.
Keep an eye on them. See what you can learn.

I've always found the stamped steel ones from NAPA Auto Parts to be the best.

Oh, you're talking about filters on camera lenses!

This is where all the gearhead car guys fall down laughing.

Just enjoy the humorous break and move on.

...I use Aperture priority to take a test shot under the lights at a football field venue. I chimp the results, if I like what I see I'll start there in Manual and work onward into the event, maybe altering my settings per group/uniform/background/props etc. as necessary. Always checking and verifying...definitely a useful and FAST way to get going...

Thanks for the clarification.
I thought that was the game plan you posted earlier.

Everyone has, or will develop their own procedures for attaining their goal. Your's works for you. I'm still trying to put some of these things together for me.

The purpose of this site should be to help each other improve, especially the newbies trying to learn. (Of course in has also become a major source of amusement and inspiration.)

"What you thought you heard ain't necessarily what I thought I said..."

Exactly!
We experience this every day speaking person to person. It gets a lot tougher reading the printed word, especially when words are miss-spelled, left out, or auto-corrected when we are in a hurry. And I have been guilty on all counts. That's why I have started proof reading everything thing I post. Still don't mean I will get 100 per cent right.

Here is my theory: if all you do in manual mode is shoot according to what the camera's meter says is the correct exposure, you're not doing anything different than if you used aperture or shutter priority. I use manual when I want to shoot at an exposure that is not what the camera meter reads. I find that faster and more flexible then using exposure compensation, which is another way to do the same thing. Thoughts?

Correct.
Put a very bright spotlight on your subject in a dark room, or be faced with sun shining off of the polished surface of a custom car, the light meter will still try to average the readings but it can not cope with it. You will get white glare (overexposure). So, to correct, you can either use the Exposure Compensation dial (while in full auto mode, TV mode, or Av mode), or you can go into full Manual mode (maybe starting with what the camera's meter tells you) and start adjusting white balance, shutter speed, aperture, and maybe even ISO and metering modes. Sometimes you have to make a lot of adjustments but keep trying. From my experiences, it's a really good feeling when that perfect picture pops out at you. God bless the chimp screen.
And I re-read this post at least twice to make sure it was correct to what I am trying to say.

What if I left the camera with the built in light meter at home ,and just took my regular camera with me , then what do I do , see how

Easy it is to confuse the issue.

After teaching high school Drafting for 33 years, listening to customers try to describe what parts they needed for their mowers for 10 years, and dealing with this auto correcting phone for 3 months, AND reading these posts, I know all to well how easily the issues get confused. Take it all with a grain of salt and have a good laugh. And just maybe learn something along the way.

Did you conjour this just to bring out all these different perceptions and disagreements? If you did, you did a fine job. I have enjoyed reading it all. It made me think. And it entertained me until 2:30am. I think I agree with you. After I have slept on it all, I may have even learned a thing or twelve. Thanx!!
