Getting sick and children that need medical care is not political.
Stop with the liberal, conservative stuff. My grandson is autistic
and 1 in 68 kids has autism. I am sure liberals and conservatives would like to see him get all the care he needs.
What we are talking about is the great American question.
Do we want a country in this new century where people care for each other. Or do we want to be like many countries I have seen where people are dying on the side of the road. Or do we want to compromise and create a competent healthcare system for all.
Politics stops when you have a sick child.

I dispute your facts. That said it is real simple. All the western nations have some form of national healthcare. Why because having millions of children and people who don't have healthcare is awful. And having a for profit insurance industry run our lives will cause a lot of pain. So they took what they could get in congress. No existing conditions restrictions. No cap. And the secret sauce controlling the cost of healthcare. We can control the knee replacement costing 125,000 in NY. If our kids get sick and the outrageous pricing makes it impossible to get what they need. Where do we stand. After watching Fox TV I suggest you google Mr. Brill's article in Time magazine called "The Bitter Pill."
The incredibly awful things that happen to sick people that need help is very sad. In my area the healthcare organizations some of which are non profits are building constantly. Healthcare is a huge profit business. Pharma is a huge profit business. And the 20% taken to manage are bills by Insurance company is a huge profit. The ACA will be tuned up changed and will eventually make our families safe from this greed.

Sony nex line and their new full frame A7 are changing the game. I got the nex 5 about 4 years ago took it to London
and was really impressed. Last year I bought the nex 7 which has a viewfinder a Metabones Speed Booster for Nikon full frame lens to work on this camera. A small well made camera that take great stills and video. Honestly taking the Nikon D800 with a great lens like the 24-70 is a large rig to carry. Another amazing camera is the Sony RX100 II. I am always amazed at its low light performance and quality visuals. One note the metabones adaptor for Nikon is totally manual. The Canon version works with the camera. I am not lazy a good camera is worth taking to work or something important. But the Sony line goes in a pocket
or your briefcase anytime. Good luck.

You did well with the focus. I started with the 28-300 a few years ago on my D700. I now shoot mostly video with a D800.
It is a bear to hand hold a heavy lens like this for a shot
at the the long end of the zoom. Use a monopod better a tripod.
That said a lens that got a so so reviews is quite good for the price. Just think that hand holding it is always a challenge.
Good luck.

Maybe I read quickly but did anyone mention is the camera dx or fx full frame?? Also my take on real estate that to much wide angle looks fake. A cheap 18-35 zoom would work. But if it is a cropped camera this is more to consider. Think a real 24mm
or 35mm widest you can afford would be great. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear of your repair experience with the NEX-7.
Sent my D800 to Nikon came back in a week. Had one of the cheaper Leica's few years ago took 3 months. I really love Sony's new products. The Sony RX-100 II is amazing. Shot Trialthlon
with NX30 camcorder and client was very happy. Pulled stills off
of video and they were amazing.
But I will say that Sony ditching NEX-7 annoyed me a very successful lineI had a NEX-5 and was very impressed. I bought my NEX-7 recently and with the 7 and 7R full frame they quite NEX line. To me this was awful. I have the Metabones Speedboosterand a lot of lens that I can put on the NEX-7.
Don't give up on Sony they are breaking the mold with
reasonable great picture making. T

This is a great question. My issue is for semipro or pro stills and video it is required to shoot raw in preparation for post processing. Being a producer and now shooter this adds a lot
of work in lightroom and color grading etc. And I do adjust some stills I have shot which makes them better. I do things that take a short amount of time. I like stills and video shot as good
out of the camera as possible. But with movies and commercials almost all being designed by colorists and stills some photo artists do look like art. With websites to change you look and alien skin (which I have) and TV the viewer is getting used to
looking at moods that don't exist. I like real. We will see where this goes. T

Good choice I have had mac laptops for years. They are a pleasure and just keep going. I think the 15" would be perfect.
I see on shop mac a 15" retina for $1999.00 8 gigs ram and 256 memory. This is the cheaper one. 16 gigs ram 500 memory is $2500. I like the flash storage because the computer boots up quickly almost on demand.
Then get a quality external drive. I just bought 2T for 138.00.
And leave your work on the drive. 2 small drives even better.
The machine runs well and your work is portable. I have a 3 year old 17" for onsite jobs but is really heavy. The best treat is
a 27" all-in-one for home/office it is a great machine even without the retina for my video it is a great monitor. Good luck.

A general comment: I have 2 D800's and have never been completely happy with them. I posted my confusion with the LCD
not showing anything near the shot like the Canon's. I sent one back because it was rejecting cards that they recommended. They fixed it. To be fair I bought them to mostly shoot cinema video. Nikon stonewalls problems. Some people posted that I didn't know how to use the camera. Read the manual.
And yet the greenish off color on the monitor Nikon claimed was the real shot. And maybe the company we all have nostalgia for doesn't exist anymore. I had my eye on the D600 but probably would not go near it now. I am still open to great stuff from Nikon. Will be patient.

I want to add that I have had Nikon's all my life and admire the company. In the 80's I had an AV company and all 35mm shots were Nikon. I have seen video shoots using the Canon 5D mark
III the go to camera for DSLR filmmakers. The Mark 2 started the indie DSLR rage and I think it is great.
I think the answers are easy. Nikon and Canon Glass.
And the surge of video capture with DSLR's. I am fortunate
enough to have Nikon gear and older Panasonic camcorder
and some Sony stuff. Each has a use. They all are works of art in their way. Tom

I also had a spotmatic think it was first serious camera.
I have 2 Nikon D800's and have the same reaction to their bulk.
I traded in my D7000 to shoot video with all the nikon lens I had. The truth is I really liked the 7000 it was just the right size.
But wanted full frame. I started to shoot on a trip to London with the Sony nex 5 and the kit lens and was astounded at the stills and video. Eventually bought the nex 7 with a Speedbooster for nikon and a Sony 18-200. Trey Ratcliff jumped from Nikon to Sony for his work. It influenced me. This is a great camera and honestly easy to put in my small case or carry anytime.
The A7/A7r look promising. But your decision to wait and see
the reports and experience is very smart. I am not sure that my investment in nex 7 etc is good now.
I am amazed by Sony.
Own the NX-30 with floating lens shot a triathlon and client was amazed. Stills off the 60p are great. Also have Sony RX100 II pocket camera which may be the best camera I have every used. And Sony's new 4k offerings as low as 2k are just happening.
I have worked with my DP with Red Epic so it takes a bit to impress me. Sony is amazing. Good luck. Tom

I think your tripod story is a much bigger more important story.
Because of a paranoid media stream and Homeland Security
we are being watched constantly. If you want to take a picture
of kids playing ball in the park you have to think twice.
I am a producer who now shoots some of the time.
We are going towards small super quality camera's because of this issue. I was in Starbucks reading a camera manual with
the Sony nex 7 and I was getting look like what is he up to.
All the crime on TV has changed people. Parents are watching their kids like they are in a movie. Youtube can be scary. Yes I have been on shoots where we were flagged mostly by corporations. I think your tripod story is very important.
