Nikon should offer some sort of future discount or incentives to those that were affected as the result of what clearly is a mistake in their ad. I guess I would have suspected something wasn’t right as the price was way under the value.

I wouldn’t consider this a bait and switch, it appears to have been an honest error. That being said, I don’t think It would have bankrupt Nikon to honor orders in the system. You know what they said, if something looks too “good” to be true, something is probably not right.

Another plus for me with the Nikon 200-500 is the 7.2' min focus distance. Not sure how that compares to Tamron or Sigma comparables. Read some of the reviews and if possible rent one to see for yourself.

I'm pleased with my Nikon 200-500 on my D810. She's heavy, but the images are sharp and the VR is exceptional.

Shutterbug in Portland told me the same after I called pro photo. But the salesman was trying to explain why this camera is out of stock. I didn't ask him anything else, except if he had any in stock. After he told me that there were only 100 cameras released in the initial batch, he said: just think about that. 100 cameras for the whole country. But what pro photo told you is irrelevant, so I'm not sure why you quoted my post.

Well, being there are more than 1 camera stores in Portland and, you never mentioned which store you contacted, I was simply stating what I was told from the store I spoke with

Not sure what Portland store you're referring too, I placed an order for a d850 at Pro Photo in Portland, they told me it would probabl wouldn't arrive until November.

I too have a Nikon d810 and the 200-500 5.6, for the $$ it's hard to beat. The only other option I'd consider would be the Nikon 300 F4 PF with a 1.4 converter. Would give an equivalent 420mm in a much lighter and compact package. However, quite a bit more money than the 200-500.

I like the Tamron 15-30 f/2.8, it would meet my needs, but like the Nikon 14-24 I sold, a bit heavy to pack around all day.

decision would be easier if I would base my choice on the want vs need.

100% unnecessary proposed change nor even a relevant post.

I would agree! This is beyond getting tiresome. Enough of the "posting" police correction notices.

I like the flexibility of a wide angle zoom, but also the sharpness of a prime. I'd be curious to check my landscape images to see what the average focal length is. Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and suggestions. I don't think I could go wrong with any of them, I'll need to stop by my local camera shop, Pro Photo Supply to take a closer look. Thank you again.

If I knew how to edit the title I'd do so. if I may ask, why is it a problem?
