My God, after you cleaned the sensor you completely lost the bird!

Here is a sample from April that shows the sharpness and tonality.

Really nice capture and wonderful output. This is what I was hoping might be obtained without giving Leica $5k.

Did you use Monochrome2DNG? And then, did you do further PP in Lightroom or something?

Is that like adding a crank to your auto?

The actual subject you have chosen, is literally as deep and wide as the ocean. A very high percentage of my own photography is focused around water, so within the category of water are dozens of sub categories. A few shots here that fall into a couple of those. Water is just magical. What you are able to see in it because of photography, is simply astonishing.

Thank you for sharing a nice sampler of water photos. In some the water is foreground, in others background. Some tell a tale of action, others a tale of serenity. Color is big in some, absent in others. Some strictly representational, others with more or less degrees of abstraction.

Really nice gallery!

I hope you're wrong in your prognostication, though. It seems to me that there should be quite a few folks who will have an interest in participating. Perhaps this series can become like My Image, Your View, with a pretty dedicated cast of characters.

Interesting. Have you had experience with this company?

Ideas to consider: A composition that did not include the surf and that used a much longer lens might be an interesting idea if you were going for extreme minimalism where only the sun and the clouds obscuring the sun are distinct. To be honest, that is something I only thought about after I got it home and on the computer.

You should feel free to comment on subject matter, technique, themes, or anything else that you observed. You may agree with my decisions or you might have your own opinions. A free and respectful exchange of ideas is the goal.

I quite liked the small version provided in the op, but when I opened it up in the detailed version, the proliferation of sensor spots proved too distracting to me. So I went in the opposite direction than you did. I cropped out the sky altogether, which in one stroke eliminated nearly all the spots. I then had a lot of fun swimming through the remainder of the image to come up with several alternative, relatively abstract, mini-images.

I really like the idea of this series and hope to be able to contribute as the months roll along.

I've been looking into a company called MaxMax.com - Llewellyn Data Processing (LDP LLC). They can modify an existing camera to convert it to monochrome only (either Infrared, Visible or Ultraviolet, or a combination). They also sell pre-modified cameras from a variety of makers: Sony, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic.

Has anyone had any experience with these folks? If so, what do you think?

If you are just a hobbyist who wants to walk around snapping photos and you use smaller kit lenses then you will have a size and weight savings with the smaller formats.

My point is that these smaller formats are not suited to professional results - not for low light, dynamic range, wide angle shooting, noise, or the ability to achieve shallower DOF.

I'm afraid many UHH folks would fall into your bucket of "just a hobbyist", in the sense that we do not make a living off of photography, nor are we particularly interested in making money from our photos. I'm assuming that's what you mean by a "professional".

That doesn't mean we "hobbyists" don't care about low light, dynamic range, wide angle shooting, noise, or the ability to achieve shallower DOF. In my experience, M43 can provide adequate, even excellent, results. As good as FF? Maybe not, but there are many other variables that enter into the equation. Someone who knows their M43 equipment inside out and has a certain level of proficiency in post-processing can show you some things that might surprise you.

Despite that, in my case the size and weight of equipment are crucial. Health issues prevent me from "walking around and snapping photos", or even walking around and doing anything. I need a camera that will allow me to not only hand-hold but one-hand-hold. Anything that facilitates that is A-OK in my book. Of course, that's coming from a humble hobbyist, so consider the source.

Since there is little relative weight savings from APS-C once good lenses are being used - the size weight thing is a diminishing return and Micro 4/3 is just inferior.

Please tell me which full-frame or even APS-C camera (with lens) is smaller and lighter than M4/3 (with lens).

If you can't think of any, then if "smaller and lighter" is a priority for a given photographer, wouldn't M4/3 be superior, not inferior?

A number of people recommended that I take up golf. Oh no, I said, golf is way too expensive. Instead, I think I’ll try photography. Lordy, I could have purchased many golf clubs, memberships, and a fancy golf cart for what I’ve spend on photography.

It gets really expensive every time you throw your camera into the lake when you make a bad shot.
