Hi,
I know everyone is hustling around for Christmas, but thought I would ask if anyone could improve some of these snapshots that were taken a few years ago. My dad just lost his dog on Thanksgiving. Very sad, She was his everything. We are trying to get some last minute gifts made with photos for him. After searching for a week I finally located the pictures I had in mind.
I have seen so many talented displays of art on this forum, I am hoping someone might be able to do something with these photos in the way of shadows, which is the thing that is bothering me the most. Anybody who wants to take a shot at it in any way you think they would be better, please have at it.

I am wondering if anyone has any input or advice about choices in photo inkjet paper. I have been using 5 star Epson paper on my Epson 1400. While I am happy with the result, I am thinking about changing to another paper(s). I have been printing my own stuff since 1976 and I had most recently used Oriental Seagull paper which is a baryta coated paper. I am especially interested in Ilford papers, of which, there are many, and offer a couple with a Pearl finish. I do remember this beautiful finish, which I haven't seen in years, and definitely haven't seen in other inkjet printers. I am interested on papers made for dye based printers. Does anyone have any experience with Ilford (baryta) papers? I use to use their film HP4, but not their papers.

I was given a used Vanguard VT219 tripod. While it was a good start for me, I find the ratcheting adjustment design to often be a problem. (Now I know why my friend upgraded :-)

There are SO many out there to choose from new, does anyone have a recommendation on a better design and brand/model they care to share?

Thanks,

Jeffrey

Don't waste your money on a cheap tripod get a good solid one
I have the SystemPRO T325P Carbon Fiber Tripod . A couple things to consider. If you think you will be using it alot (I use my a great deal and carry it all the time hiking) is a carbon fiber. this model is solid and light weight. Carbon Fiber are pricey just for legs. the head I have on it is a manfrotto 804rc2 with quick release plate. It is not a ball head I just did not like the ball head person preference. I have had about 10 different tripods cheap ones under 150.00 and they just did not last or where flimsey and ended up not using them. I wish I had just spent the money the first time and get a good one. Now I am very happy and use it all the time. Even adding a kirk L bracket to it. Good luck with your search

You might really like topaz pluggins and eye candy pluggins for processing allows you to do those effects and 100's of other type of effects

Trying to. Manual is too big. So I'm going slow and trying one chapter at a time. Kayak photo is auto with a little in-camera trim done. I liked the colors.

Recently purchased Lightroom and CS 5 I have created a watermark/copyright & saved it as a user preset.
1 How do I apply it to all images already in my catalogs and categories?
2 What is the difference between the Catalog & Categories?
3 Where can I learn about the most easy & efficent workflow techniques and practices?
Thanks in advance.

1. select all your images and use the spray can
2. catalog is what you store all your images in, you sure you don't be collections - which are groupings from your catalog. Ex - I do a catalog each year and will do a collection from the catalog of all my lighthouse shots
3. Their is not one given workflow but check out Scott Kelby site great tutorials or all aspects of photography, lightroom and photoshop.

Nice machine and setup you will love it and should last you a while. Been and still am a Mac geek. I am teaching a course at a local college 20 27 inch Imacs chocked full of ram and using Lion. A few changes with the interface but that just takes a day to get use to and is great in the long run

I have a new Nikon D7000, one lens (16-85mm) uv filter, polarizing filter, tripod, remote control, manual, & David Busch’s book. Most of the time I turn off the in camera flash as it washes out the photos. (I shoot on auto.) I would like to use the scene settings, such as portrait, at a family get together tomorrow. (The flash will pop up) The family member that usually takes photos cannot attend, and I cannot figure all this out with one day’s notice. Photos will be taken inside and outside.
(page 223 in manual) My camera: e1 Flash sync speed shows 1/250. Lines e2 through e6 shows: This option is not available with current settings. Is this because I shoot on Auto? I would like to turn down the flash, but I am hesitant to make changes when I don’t know what I am doing.
If anyone can help me with this, or have any suggestions, I would appreciate the advice.
The UHH forum has been very helpful to me. It does take me away from work, though!

If it was me, I would switch to aperture priority, then if you are outside change the ISO to 200, if inside change the ISO 1000. Dial the aperture of your camera to F8 (this will give you a middle range depth of field) keep an eye on shutter speed make sure it does not dip below 1/60 of a sec. This will eliminate then need for flash. as long as shutter speed is 1/125 you will freeze most action and if it falls to 1/60 the person most hold still or pose.

It's really hard to think about heavy lifting in Elements.

Elements is a fine program can do almost everything photoshop can do for photographers. Work around for straight masking and even has a few tools that photoshop does not have.
