Very beautiful series, I love #3 and 6 the most. I love there wines too!!

Thanks for looking and your comments - I can't figure out which I like best, but that comes with the "too close" encounter - and yes, I definitely do like their wines - Argentina is mainly known for their reds, but the white Torrontes grapes growing mainly in the pictured Cafayate area are wonderful as well!

Very nice shot: Classic, clean, nature at its very best, and a photographer that sees and captures it! Congrats.

Wonderful, beautiful series! First time I think I've seen Argentina on UHH :) Hope you'll start posting photos regularly now that you've dipped your toe into the water.

Thank you, Linda from Maine (and now almost my neighbor in WA) - I see you very active on UHH - and I like your avatar picture - interestingly I have a quite similar photo taken on that Argentina trip in the Andean Northwest album - have a look if you have the time, you should be able to find it quite quickly via the thumbnails.

Again, thanks for looking and commenting

All gorgeous, i especially like first and last ones, great job!

Thank you, usn ret and Tom, for looking and taking the time to comment. I finally became active on this site, after watching for a year, this was my first post - and I just wonder why I cannot see the post in the picture gallery section, while you are able to see it - or did you see it in the "upcoming" section before it disappeared - do the posts materialize one day later?

Just trying to understand how this works - Thanks again

Last spring we did a drive through Argentina's Northwest and found interesting landscapes and vibrant colors up there. First time I was shooting RAW and also first time using Lightroom 5, thus I am still in a steep learning curve. I welcome critique so that I can improve my photography and PP. This is actually the first time I post any picture on UHH, one of our members encouraged me to do so.
The photos are part of the album "Andean Northwest" on my website - see link in my avatar.

Most of my photos are travel related, and I return with way too many. I work them over, eliminate most and refine the keepers. I then research the subjects, caption each photo and assemble them in web-albums that I post on my web-site. Have been doing this since 2011, presently running about one year behind, as we have traveled quite a bit lately.
I advise my friends about twice a year of new album postings. Presently I am finishing an album series of a trip to South America, mainly Argentina last spring. Got the photos finished, but am having problems with both the website host re their change of lay-outs as well as with the transitioning of Picasa to Google+, and also with browser access: While Firefox and Google Chrome seem to work, Internet Explorer presently does not seem to. Working on that but I am off in a few days again.

Oh, and I also stream the photos continuously from my computer to my TV using an Apple-TV box, so I see my pictures daily as I walk by the TV - sadly though, the Apple-TV box just died, will have to do something new when I return. I also do calendars at the year end of the best shots of the year.

Just a local bartender....but isn't she beautiful???

She was raised on a farm.

Knows the meaning of "Values".

She asked me if I would take payments for my work.

And I ask her:

Well...., "How much do I have to pay you for this??

I was then "Shut Off"!! (kidding)

Really.....

I told her the price.....Was One Beer!

I did the shoot, took her a 11x14 today.

She cried!

She said: No one ever did anything like this for me!

( I love being a photographer)

Thanks, Boone.

Nice shot - I myself love vivid colors, adds a bit of zest to life - too much living goes on in muted colors (and moods) - just my honest opinion and it definitely reflects on my pictures - Thanks for posting

I am planning a trip to Paris this July....any suggestions on day trip, photo friendly operators?
I like landscape and wildlife photography.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Busby, I am getting excited just thinking about going to Paris - I spent a year there when I was 20 (50+ years ago) and we go back just about every year, sometimes for a few days, sometimes we take an apartment for a month and we try to stay each time in different arrondissements (sectors) to really soak up the local flair. We will actually be in Paris the first 2 weeks of May this year - coming up fast!

And ... contrary to many other opinions, you can actually see wild life in Paris, particularly in the parks, of course mainly avian and not particularly exotic (Butte Chaumont, Bois de Vincennes, etc). You got a number of good suggestions already from other posters, but just keep the following in mind: Depending on how much time you plan to spend in the city itself and the flexibility for timing you have, I would strongly suggest to visit Giverny and Versailles, etc but NOT on weekends or on local holidays, we made that mistake in Giverny once on a holiday Monday that we didn't even knew existed, stood in line in brutal heat for more than 2 hours before we could even enter, and then had masses of people in the gardens - by all means plan to go, but try to do it on a weekday when at least some of the locals are at work. This sort of also holds true for the major monuments in Paris, Sacre Coeur for instance is a wonderful place, but on the weekends it is choc-a-bloc full with tourists, many of which are weekenders from other European locations. By-the-way, another location I have not seen mentioned thus far is the Chateau of Chantilly in the north-east of Paris, easy to reach by train - a beautiful castle with a nice, reasonably sized museum, gardens and a very nice restaurant in the gardens.

Also, if you have the time, try not just to visit the major sights, but spend some time in the side streets and minor locations, you see a lot more of the "real" Paris there.

Practical tips: I post my pictures on my web-site and there are plenty of Paris and the surrounding areas, unfortunately they are often part of larger albums and you would have to do a bit of digging to find the Paris related pictures. All the pictures come with location information, so if something piques your interest, google the location or look it up on a map (google maps are great), or ask me questions. You can find my web-site by clicking on my name. About a year ago, I made up a one pager with info on lodging, restaurants, sightseeing, etc. If you are interested, I would be very happy to mail this sheet to you, just send me your e-mail address to

weberwest@hotmail.com

(I don't know whether I can do attachments on the private mail section of UHH)

Have fun preparing the trip and then on location!

I know this topic has been covered with some folks saying they "always" shoot RAW and others indicating that in most cases with a good DSLR there is no noticeable difference except in huge enlargements. Let's see some proof, either way. I will note that I shot a photo of our house in both formats and could not see any difference in an 8 x 10 print.

I had been shooting jpeg fine for almost 10 years and always wondered why I should shoot raw, as I was clearly satisfied with what I could achieve in jpeg fine. Last year I got myself a new D610 camera and thought, what the heck, lets try for once to shoot both jpeg fine and raw. I also started to use Lightroom 5 for post processing instead of Picasa. Shot about 5000 pictures on a trip down in South America - no easy place to go back to. When I started to post process both the jpegs and the raws, I realized with horror how little lattitude I have with the jpeg pictures compared to the raws.

Now I am literally banging my head against the wall berating myself for not listening to the knowledgeable minds earlier - but at least I can chalk it up to experience to never have to wonder again whether jpeg fine or raw is the way to go. By the way, as I am still in a huge learning curve, I will continue to shoot both jpeg fine and raw, to get an immediate first view of what a picture could look like (in jpeg) and then to find out what I really can do with it - I guess I will eventually go just the raw way, but storage is so cheap.

Good luck in your quest to find "the way" that suits you.

Absolutely fantastic shots but in most cases way too short durations - these sequences almost dizzy me out!
