J, for the sake of discussion, maybe I'm just cheap, but if I had the 16-35, I would not spend whatever the 14mm cost to get 2 more mm!
And when comparing distortion, did you compare the 14mm to 14mm on the 11-24, or was that full wide at 11mm? That could make a big diff.
Anyway, just saying.

Yeah, if I had a 16-35 I am pretty sure I would sit tight with it. In my case, the widest I have(had) is 24mm, so I am happy with the 14mm. If the 16mm is not wide enough for the OP, then I would definitely be getting the 11-24mm. I did not compare both at 14mm - but honestly, I am surprised by the lack of distortion (very little). Canon has some great lenses!

I received my 14mm and have been playing around with it. If your main purpose is real estate photography then I would probably go with the 11-24. Because if you have a smaller room the 11mm would definitely work better.

Any experience out there with the Canon 11-24 f/4L ? Debating over it and the 14mm f/2.8L prime.

Both are apples and oranges in one respect but the 11 mm range could be useful to me for very tight real estate.

I am Canon loyal so I wouldn't consider 3rd party lenses.

Any thoughts from someone who has used this lens would be appreciated...

No experience, but I was just researching this myself this past week. As I sit here I am waiting for UPS to knock on my door with the 14mm f:2.8. I thought long and hard between the two but in the end both were great and I ended up choosing the one that was a little less.
Now is also a great time to buy if you might need two lenses or in my case a lens and extender - Canon rebates until the 3rd of June I believe.

My suggestion would be to go the sports gallery here or search sports on Flickr and you can look at the EXIF info to see what camera and lenses they are shooting with. I shoot a lot of high school sports and many of the games are under poor stadium lights - this makes it a necessity to shoot at a pretty high ISO (6400) and I still have noise. I am using a full frame camera (5D 4) with a 70-200 f:2.8 and in good lighting I use a 100-400 f:4.5-5.6. I do not get 10fps but I get a good quality photo at 6-7fps. Unless you have an unlimited budget, you can't have it all. You did not mention a budget. If we knew your budget we could help with what will fit into it.

You don't mention whether this is for shooting your kids or if you want to try to break into sports photography. But as I mentioned, I would look at and study sports photos to see how the different cameras and lenses behave in the situations you are interested in.

Good luck!

Personally, I would only take your 24-70mm lens. You do not want to have to carry it all around and leaving items in your hotel room can be risky as well. A lot of places will not allow flash, so your fast lens will be good. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and you will be fine. Most of all enjoy your trip!

Hello,

I am traveling to Raleigh next week to attend the National Genealogical Society Conference and then back home via the Dismal Swamp. If anyone has any suggestions on nature photography in either Raleigh or the Dismal swamp, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you

First off, Thank you! I moved to the Triangle almost 2 years ago and had never heard of the Dismal Swamp. Now I have a new place to explore. I do agree with Yates Mill Pond, it is a nice little visit and walk. Also agree with Sarah Duke Gardens and Duke Chapel, again very nice. If you will have a car you might just want to venture out onto the more country roads, lots of older chapels that are quite quaint and old tobacco barns too. I also like Eno River State Park, on the northwest side of Durham. If you can get over Durham way an area to see is the American Tobacco Campus - more urban, but some nice things to see. Actually not too far from Duke.

Enjoy your visit!

Thanks. So you prefer the Black Rapid Sport over teh Op/Tech? Good to know. Sorry to hear it stillhas some swing. I was beginning to lean toward the Black Rapid. I have seen the Carry Speed on line. That looks good too. Will go to local camera store and see it they have both available to try.

I think anytime you have a camera hanging down on your side you will have movement, unless it is attached to your side somehow. It is just the nature of physics. I still like the Op-Tech, but I have found it a little easier to switch things around with the Black Rapid. I have extra screw connectors and keep them attached to the tripod foot on my long lenses, so all I have to do is unclip and reclip the strap.

Thanks Reinaldo. I am considering the Black Rapid. It has the clips in front and back of the camera to minimize swing.

I have switched from an Op-Tech strap to the Black Rapid Sport and am happy with it. I really like the under-arm clip and feel that it does help keep things in place. I will say though that the camera can still move about, maybe not swinging from front to back, but it does still move about hitting your hip or leg. When walking I will place my hand on the camera to keep it from moving around. I think if you were hiking and took a little fall that the camera will still have to potential to hit the ground. I have thought about the the Cotton Carrier, but still a little turned off by the "dork" factor.

Is it supported and up-gradable?

I upgraded to Lightroom 6 - it started at 6.0 and is now at 6.9. I have been able to upgrade it, but if there is a time that a 7.0 comes out you would have to purchase at the upgrade price. I think the upgrade price from 5-6 was around $80 or $90.

No, but you can purchase Lightroom outright and have it on your computer. It is $149.00.

Just today I was having problems importing my pictures into Lightroom 6.9 (stand alone version). I could not get things to work and every time the program would hang without importing anything. This has happened every time I have tried to import the last two weeks. I don't know if there is a bug that needs fixing or if they are hoping people will be frustrated enough to switch over to the monthly subscription.

mine (CC version) went into a strange state a couple of days ago where it insisted i had a trial version. i found the adobe forum & posted a what's up kind of question. the next morning all worked as paid for. i don't know if it was a server connect glitch on their end or whether their count down software has a bug & my post helped to get me a quick resolution. it's all a big mystery. but as of yesterday, the problem seems to have disappeared.

This exact thing happened to me this week. I was pulling my hair out because, of course, I was on a deadline. They had me reactivate and then uninstall and reinstall. It was a pain, but it is working again.

Boy, there sure is a lot of relationship advice for one little snippet of information (one sided, I might add). I know most are tongue and cheek, but all the divorce and get a girlfriend advice is just wrong. Only one poster (StanRP) seemed to truly cherish his wife and share some good advice - it sounds like she passed away. I am sorry for your loss, it must have been quite a love story.

I've been reviewing a lot of tripods/heads for my canon, gripped, 70D. I'm still deciding on the "big sig"150-600 sport vs contemporary
I'm totally convinced for $240. Buying the desmond dcf 432 pod /Demon (46) mm head, Is an awesome value, and will hold a big set up, no problem. I'm no means a pro, but serious screwer arounder. Never had a. Big $$$ tripod b4 like RRS, etc, but this thing is sweet/excellent. Therefore, check it out amazon/e-bay. Where they sell. I know the price is/will go up. I know it, hope if you have the need to save, you can't go wrong. This thing is solid 👍

Looks a lot like the Nest tripod sold at Camera Cottage. Probably made by the same manufacturer in China.
