I have that lens and it is very convenient to zoom . The image quality is good. Check compatibility with your camera. I use it on a D800

My approach in LR is to export my images to a Thumb drive and then insert them into an Email. Works for me and I can always check my Sent Folder in my Email program.

You need to use whatever format you feel comfortable in. You have made up your mind about JPEG.

To me JPEG is like a VW Car. RAW is like a Rolls Royce car. They both will get you to a destination but the difference in the potential quality of the image.

All you are going to get is a persons bias because there is no one right answer. If I were you, and you said you want to update, I would go with the D810 because of 36.3MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor and
EXPEED 4 Image Processor. I have the D800 and love it.

It all has to do with features, accuracy and what you want to spend. . I am a Sekonic meter guy. I think they make a high quality precision meter.

If you are hiking, my concern is for safety of your equipment. My suggestion is a backpack. If you want your camera to be quickly available I would go with a CottonCarrier system. I use it for wildlife and love it.
