I'm in the Nikon camp! I've had a dozen or so, still have an F3, a D100, D200, Coolpix E2200, 2 FGs, and an old Nikkormat. All still work great and never had a problem! Have taken photos all over the world....mountain tops, and on the oceans, desert hot & freezing-ass cold, never been let down. D200, bought new, has 70K actuations.

I have a Canon AE-1....never had a problem with it either, still a good camera.

Maybe I'm just lucky!

I've been using a SLIK U-212 for years, it's outlived 5 cameras and still holds up my Pentax 6x7 with a 200mm lens.

That's great! That's all I want to do, have a mention in a contest. I won a contest about 40 some years ago and won $10 as I recall!

So yes, I would pay $20 to enter a contest!

Is it for amateurs? Or would I be competing against the John Shaw's of the world? Is there a particular theme?
