I have been tempted to get the Fuji 100-400 mm lens (and it was on sale during the holidays) but have held off because of the weight and size relative to the camera size- wondered if the lens would be an awkward fit. Please let us know what you think about that lens- focus reliability and speed, tracking, image quality and video if you do that. The consumer ratings are good and then not so good- hard to make an informed decision.

Will do, I’ll see how it compares to the Nikon D500 & 200-500. I don’t expect it to compete with a 500 f4 or similar but neither do any of the long zooms. I think the not so good reviews are from people with poor technique, Fuji makes beautiful lenses, I am amazed how well the 16mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2, 16-55mm f2.8 and 50-140mm f2.8 perform.

The Nikon 20mm 1.8 is your best choice by a long shot over any zoom lens.

I picked up an X-T3 during the holiday sale, it’s a little different way of working compared to my Nikon kit but I am loving it. I have the Fuji 100-400 coming in the mail this week and will see how that compares to the Nikon 200-500.

I have purchased quite a few lenses from EBay without any issues. If the seller does not have detailed close up images of the lens I will ask them for additional photos including one looking through the lens at a bright background. The ones I have ask have done it.

If you want a 2 in 1 check out the HP Spectra X-360, i7 8750 chip, Nvidia 1050ti card, SSD drive and a 4K screen. It’s fast and quiet.

The Laowa 12mm Zero D is wider a than the Nikon 14-24, sharp plus less distortion.

Forget live view continuous auto focus for video on any Nikon body except the new Z6 or 7 in some situations. Nikon never put any effort into it on the DSLR bodies. It works ok for stills on the higher end bodies. I am adding Fuji to my system and the video AF is a huge improvement. For serious video I use manual focus with a follow focus system with hard stops.

They are great heads, I have 2 of the Flashpoint 600s, 2 of the 600 pros and a Evolt 200 with the round head, it’s a great edge light for portraits. I like the pro model for the brighter modeling light. The 600s have totally replaced my White Lightening Ultras, love being all cordless.

I wanted the 14-24 when it first came out but couldn’t justify the price. Now it is considered long in the tooth, not very good in the corners and over priced compared to the Tamron. Nikon probably has an update in the works.

If you are interested in manual focus lenses, the Mitakon 35mm f0.95, Rokinon 12mm f2 and the Laowa 9mm f2.8 Zero D are working very well on the X-T3.

If you are an Adobe CC subscriber you can still get Encore CS6, it is really the only DVD authoring program worth using.

If you are using a Fujifilm or older Sony camera you need the grip for the battery life.

Some of the new Sigma, Tamron & Voigtlander are as good or better than anything Canon and Nikon has to offer. I have the Sigma Art 135, 1.8 and it is amazing, Nikon doesn’t have anything to compete with it.

The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 will cover a full frame sensor at the 15 & 16mm focal lengths, not the greatest on the edges but it will work.
