Stan if you have never seen the aurora, late 2024 through early 2026 is the peak of the aurora cycle (sun activity). Try to get somewhere north to see them!

I want to thank everyone for their great comments on my Aurora images, I might have missed responding to some.

Fantastic images. I worked in Iceland for a year and never got to see such a display.

A lot of it is luck!

…amazing…nicely done…I like #8…I’ve never seen red before…!

I had only seen very weak reds so it was great when the reds were really brilliant for a few minutes. The next couple of years are the peak of the aurora activity cycle...

Thanks Doug, it really is amazing, we have traveled to see them many times but this was the best yet.

great images, you were incredibly lucky to be able to see the recent fantastic lights. We lived in Iceland for 2 years, we saw green dancing veils, never other colors. We never saw frozen water falls, so don't be upset. Iceland actually has much more moderate temperatures than most people think.

Yes, I was lucky that night for sure. I have quite a few images with the brilliant red. I actually DEsaturated it so it didn't look fake. Thanks!

We were in Iceland two weeks ago and I was looking forward to snow covered ground and frozen waterfalls. Well I was disappointed that the land was mostly clear and none of the waterfalls we saw had ice. It has been very warm with a lot of rain recently. This was my first trip there in winter so was hoping for the classic experience. We had one amazing night of Aurora activity that proved to be the best continuous display I have seen with nonstop action for over two hours! This one night was worth the whole trip!

Just a note about this...I am no expert but I upgraded from the D7100 to the D850 when it first came out. I also bought new lenses like the 20mm, 24-70, 70-200, and 300PF. I still carry my D7100 as a back up camera and used it in Africa with the 70-200 in 2021 so I would not have to change lenses in the dusty air. When I got home, downloaded the images and started to cull them I was shocked that on most images from the D7100 I could NOT tell the difference from my D850.

My point is I think the quality of the lenses make more of an impact on the quality of your images than the camera.
I would buy the lenses now to use with your D7500 if you can't buy both the lenses and new camera together.
