I've noticed that it seems as though user comments on new gear start out quit positive, But the longer such comments linger on, the more things (often) seem to level off a bit. So I'll need to give this one some time before considering the purchase for my needs. I could use the longer zoom for my wildlife subjects; hence my initial interest in Nikon's announcement.

Since what you need is not personal experience on that model,

3000mm Zoom is amazing which should let you see a bird a mile away.
Otherwise look at this comparison. The 4K & shoot now and focus later feature is also amazing at much less.

Manfrotto is an Italian company.

That is Mephoto which country of origin can not be found but it seems to be sold at many stores including Amazon.
A similar design of Zomei is about half price in Amazon with a similar rating. Why spend more, just because the pricier the better?

I got a zomei z888c at a discount store for right at $100. They are $159 on amazon. Very light but very sturdy for the money. I’ve had it for over a year and no troubles. One leg will also make a monopod.

Zomei is a reasonable stable brand with choice of gimbal or pan head, alum or carbon for reasonable budget.
Another mention for its gimbal design, it can be folded down to 16" and expand to 70", one of its leg can be detached and used as monopod.
I have the 668 version

I think the FZ80 would be a better choice, as it's newer and has some better features. Google a comparison of the FZ70 and FZ80. But to start with, the FZ80 has a 20mp sensor and can shoot in RAW.

With the Nikon 610, you may want to buy the Nikon 28-300 and leave everything else home. It is a solid performer and will generally give you images nicer than a point and shoot. Otherwise, I would set a price and look at Panasonic, Canon, and Sony (and the new Nikon P1000 if it is available before you fly). Head over to DpReview and read over their recommended cameras. I took phenomenal Machu Picchu shots with a plain vanilla $300 P&S Canon 7 yrs ago. I was shocked at the great quality of my pictures. It has only gotten better. We were doing humanitarian work in small towns and simply couldn’t risk traveling with anything of value. I was sad about leaving my Nikon 300S at home, but got great shots anyway. Have fun. What a great trip.

Thank you for suggesting. I checked the 28-300 which cost around $600 in Amazon.
I need a longer zoom for wildlife in Galapagos and Panama City, therefore I ordered the fz80 for $270.

I am quite excited by its features such as 4K photo and post focus, which I think it is very feasible for including myself with the scenery.

I think my D610 with 24-85 should take better pictures within its range.

Sony RX10. M3

Thank you for your suggestion
The Sony is over 4 times pricier, without 4K photo and post focus and much narrower zoom range; but advantages are the articulating screen, 1" Senor and higher ISO.
For wide life shooting, the Sony is very much limited; probably very good for street, portrait and family photo.

I just hammered this yesterday for my future trip to Machu Picchu, Galapagos and Panama City in Oct
This is the cheapest I found.

It is your preference to choose which advantage is more important.
But for the 4K capability, touch-screen, external flash and about $100 cheaper, I picked the FZ80

I suspect most of the technical terms and jargon used in our responses in this thread is way over the OP's head at this point. I looked at her 14 previous posts and she is a complete newbie coming from a point and shoot. I'm guessing the concept of DoF while familiar to all of us is just a completely foreign concept to her. I believe our responses need to be shorter and jargon free to help her understand the reasons for the results she's getting, and why they may be appropriate . She should also post an image or two. I've found that some newbies, and not so newbie, are averse to background blur 100% of the time and expect the whole image to be in sharp focus.

Too much explanation!!
Just take a picture and check the result, if you want more focus on background and foreground, do either one of all of the followings.
. use a smaller aperture(larger F number)
. use a wider angle
. move further away from the scene
. use focus stacking method

You move yourself further away from the river.

Did you perhaps miss the part where the OP said she likes the size and weight of the D3300? Sometimes, Hog members with questions are really more interested is just having their questions answered rather than tons of suggestions.

Personally I think the Leica SL would be perfect for her needs. But her question didn’t seem to open up that avenue.

Dennis

Sorry I miss the part by 3oz heavier than the other suggestion of a D7100, perhaps that's why you raise the flag.
I switched to FF after 3 models of Pentax Dslr and about 15 lens, because of somebody's suggestion.
Besides, I really this it is a big plus of using Nikon FF because of the choices of vintage film lens.
Suggestion is suggestion and not twisting somebody's arm.

the Nikon features about the same as FZ80 but more expensive
