I have a lot of very nice lens, but with my crop sensor camera the EF-S 18-135 is the go to lens. It just works and does the job.
While you are looking, also consider the Canon T6s. It pretty much meets the criteria you have described with some added features over the T6i. I can't speak at all about any Nikon models.
