You saying they are so ugly just isn't right. All animals have their own beauty. Just ask their mothers! JESS

I know, I'm probably too harsh in my feelings of this bird. I guess I really feel like they are too common and are often the only bird in the sky. I'm always trying to get shots of the more exotic or uncommon, and our Turkey Vulture is not that... at least where I live. I really don't hate them, I hate that PA is not FL

Fullframe,
It may be an ugly bird to you, but the shots are pretty, and well done. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you!

December arrival in Annapolis is not personal: the vultures' December congregation anticipates the annual arrival of the Maryland legislature in January.

Yeah, eat 'em up!

Very nice capture. Was it shot in M...if not how many stops did you increase brightness & what focus mode.

Thank you. Yes, shot in Manual mode. Increased shadows in lightroom +64 (not sure how many stops that is)

AF with single point, AIServo high speed

I can't stand this creature. I know it has it's place in the overall scheme of things, but man, could it be any uglier? Eye is covered with nictitating membrane in second shot.

@400mm 1/1250 sec wide open at F 5.6 ISO 200

In post shadows lifted for under wing and cropped slightly for composition.

Pretty stellar shot for a telephoto lens. Been hemming and hawing about whether to get one, this photo just sealed the deal for me.

Thanks! I bought one a year ago, but returned it thinking it was just another garbage zoom (jack of all trades master of none). But for the last year it's always been on my mind....I've seen pretty phenomenal results of others online who owned the lens, so I took the plunge again! I couldn't be happier. Maybe I had a bad copy the first time around, or maybe it wasn't clicking with the body I was using at the time, or maybe it was just me, who knows. As far as I'm concerned it's the cat's meow.

I have some more testing to do, but if my feelings are confirmed, I might contemplate selling my 70-200 f2.8 II IS and using this 100-400 as my go to lens.

Great details in your shots

I've shot lots do bathing water fowl at my local MSPCA shelter, and I've never seen one of them looking that disheveled and downright wet after their baths. Usually water rolls right off of their feathers!

How did this goose end up looking like a drowned rat?

I have no idea why it looks like a wreck. It did snow the day before so maybe there was no shelter and it soaked in the snow showers all day???

That was with your Tamron 150-600? Very nicely done!

No it was with the big white Canon 6. Not mobile like the tammy

Testing close up pics @ 400mm. Maybe 2 feet away? I was on top of it at min distance.

F 5.6 wide open focusing on the 12 o'clock lum on the dial. I'm impressed as the hands are progressively out of focus, and the bezel is even more out of focus...all within millimeters of each other.

Cropped slightly for straightness.

Testing out the new Canon 100-400mm L IS II.

400mm wide open at F5.6; ISO 800; High shutter exposing for the whites.

A little bit of post noise reduction around the head and cropped slightly for composition. I should have shot around ISO 200...would have been much cleaner. Although nothing is perfect, I can't complain about the 5D4 ISO performance.

The last one is my favorite because of the water droplets flying around.
