I have the 7DII and put my birding lens on it and leave it on.

My recommendation is to buy a tripod that will easily support the largest lens and camera you could ever own. I speak from experience. I have owned 4 or 5 tripods (maybe more) because I bought only for my immediate needs rather than equipment I might some day acquire. I never dreamed I would ever have a 600mm lens. Well, guess what. Yeah. Buy for possible future needs, no matter how remote. That is my advice.

Like the image. Brings back memories. I grew up in a town where everyone worked for the railroad. All we had were locomotives. Diesel engines did not exist.

I remember a person who couldn't use her store's cash register because it didn't tell her what change she had to return from the bill(s) the customer paid with.

I hate Photos and the way it handles images. I much preferred iPhotos. Much easier to organize and use.

I like the Canon 24--70 f/2.8 II lens. It seems to be very good. I always have it with me. Highly recommend it.

I am interested but don't own any other aurora software. Is the HDR software stand alone? Thanks.

Canon's 11--24 wide angle would be a great addition. I have one and really like it.

If you plan to photograph insects, then I recommend the 150mm to 200mm macro lenses. With the shorter ones you will frequently scare the insect because you have to get so close to fill the frame. The nikon 200mm macro is one of the best I have ever used.

I have the 7DII. When I go to Yellowstone, I put y 600mm lens on it and leave it on. It is a great wildlife body. I think you will really enjoy using it.

I've had mine for 14 years. The only place I visit regularly that I can't use it is Custer State Park in So. Dakota (because it is not a national park). Works great in Yellowstone, Glacier, and all the vast number of Federal parks. My wife also has one. Each one admits the whole carload free. When traveling with family, she goes in one car and I am in the other. Get one before the price goes up.

Try them in your hands before buying. Does it feel good in your hands? Are the features that you are most likely to use easily controlled without lowering the camera from your eye. For example can you easily control focusing? Shutter speed? Lens opening? Frames per second (for action photography (sports games, wildlife...)

Try to anticipate what features you would need as your abilities increase.

I highly recommend the Canon 7D mark II. The frame rate is very good ( 10 FPS) and I think it is reasonably priced (even better used).

I don't have a cell phone but, I wonder if you have any control of depth of field with them.

PhotoShop Elements is what you can buy and not rent. It should do everything you need, including layers. It runs about $60 now, as a newer version is due out. You don't need to buy a new version every year.

This should give you a good idea what to expect:

Elements does not work in 16 bit with all its features. Many of its tools only work in 8 bit.
