I would not use silicon lubricants anywhere near a lens. Silicon spreads EVERYWHERE. Your whole house is now contaminated. For some things this is not much of a problem but I think this cannot be good for the lens elements. Silicon will reach the interior of the lens.

I totally agree with your comments here. Although silicone is a great lubricant I would not use it near my photo gear. I would be concerned with it getting inside my lens barrel and on to the lenses. As mentioned, silicone migrates on surfaces and airborne particles migrate via HVAC systems. As an example, the auto manufacturers never allow anything containing silicone lubricants anywhere in their paint facilities as it can get onto surfaces to be painted which results in rejects and expensive rework.

HP Photosmart 7900

I have a 7900 that I have had since new, and agree it is a good photo printer for color but terrible for black and white. It has been out of production for at least 15 years and most inks that you can find are out of date if you can find them at all. Epson or Canon with pigment inks is the way to go.

Great presentation and enjoyed the history lesson Paul. I took the L many times over the years from O’Hare into the city for business…..quickest way to get there. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for that feedback.

I found this on Amazon but not B&H. Is it similar to yours? It says folded length of 18.9". I'm wondering if folding the ball head 90° will allow me to fit down in the place I have for it. That length limit is only for the horizontal measurement and would be easy enough to have the ball head hanging up, down of sitting sideways if turned.

What are your thoughts on those possibilities?

B&H has a couple Sirui tripods listed on their website that fall into your dimensional requirements. I have a Sirui tripod carbon fiber Model N-2204X and a Sirui K20x ball head.Overall length is 18.5 inches with ball head attached. It will support a ff body with 100-400 lens with reasonable stability. I bought it for travel as it fits in my luggage without removing the ball head. I believe I paid around $200 or a littl more for the tripod which I understand it is over your budget but the dimensions are perfect for your needs. The price of the ball head is separate. Sirui does have similar model tripods in the $150 range. This is not a tripod that will fall apart.

I really like the first and second images...good composition, very nice gray tones and just clean sharp images with low noise. The reflections in the dark panels add interest to the composition in my opinion and I really don’t find them distracting. I find the subject of the first two shots to be the shapes and forms of the architecture. I am especially fond of b&w architectural images so I may be a bit biased. I am not enthused about the third shot as it is too busy with no real subject.
Well executed architectural images. Thanks for posting.

Check out Sirui tripods on the B&H website. They make some lightweight tripods that fold to about 15 inches but max extension in the 50-60 inch range so you would need to bend over a bit. Adding a small ball head would extend height 3 inches or so. You could pack the ball head separately if need be although not very convenient. Prices in the $150 range. Sirui quality is very good for the price in my opinion.
Good luck!

I have experienced this problem a couple times. Replaced the batteries and problem went away.
Also make sure the sensor or ball on the bottom is clean.
