Probably 90% of my shots will in auto, just because when I go out I'm looking for TO's (Army for Targets of Opportunity). If it's a specific shot I'm going after, then it's manual.

Spent a lot of time in that area (Fort Lee) in the '80's. Last time was for a bicycle trip in 2004. Always liked that area of the country. Nice picture, sorry about the ball head, but at least it wasn't the camera.

Here’s an article which should be of interest to those us of “a certain age.” There’s now a name for the way many of us were raised: “Free range kids.” Check out the NYT article, and do follow the link about the parents in Silver Springs, MD. Truly Orwellian: “a charge of unsubstantiated child neglect.” According to this I and my brother and sister could have been forcibly placed in foster homes because our parents gave us progressively more freedom and autonomy as we grew older.

Here’s the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/20/opinion/the-case-for-free-range-parenting.html?ref=opinion&_r=0

When you follow the link you'll see that apparently ALL children under the age of 18 should be under direct adult supervision at all times! Good way to develop independent adults, right?

I read this a while back and I had to shake my head. Guess I was lucky growing up in the country, from the time I was 8 I could pretty much go where I wanted (as long as I let my parents know about where I would be) just be home for supper. I started out in my uncle's 40 acre woods behind our house, then I graduated to other areas, such as following the river, up stream and down.

How adjusted are these kids going to be once they reach adulthood?

There was an email going around a few years ago about funny exchanges between pilots and control towers. One stands out in my mind.

An English pilot was about to land a commercial flight at a German airport, and he was asking about the runway situation. The smug German air traffic controller said, "Haven't you ever flown to Germany before?"

Pilot: "Yeah, in 1944, but I didn't land."

I remember hearing something like that, when a gentleman tried to enter France on a trip and the official was giving him a rough time about a stamp on his passport he didn't have. The guy said, "The last time I was in France I didn't need that stamp". French guy: You've always needed that stamp. When was the last time you were in France? The other guy replied "June 6, 1944.

The only time I use the LCD is to check the picture I just took or to show the wife what I just took.

You made some excellent points and deserve a lot of thanks for your military service and your service to mankind as a EMT.

A question however. You say the public has no idea what is going, act like idiots and impede the workers. Would it make any difference if they had a camera? If they were within 25 feet, mightn't they be problem with or without a camera? It seems the Texas law should say people in general should stay at least 25 feet away, not just those with cameras. Seems obvious.

Thank you. I believe it would, you've seen the ones, always want to get a step closer...then maybe another step closer just to get a better shot....then, well you get the idea. Reminds of the time I had a female race car driver in the back of the unit, she had rolled her car a couple of times.

On a bad accident we would do what is called a "stip & flip", everything off to check for any injuries. I wasn't going to do that anyway because of how they are buckled in. Her mom was in the back with me (CYA), when done we looked out the back window and there were at least a dozen of what she called "slacked jawed, booger eatin' morons" trying to look in the back of the unit.

She proceeded to tell them what she thought of them, using words I hadn't heard in years. :D

My brother is a retired PO, I myself was a MP in the military and I have a few friends that are currently PO's...it's a shame that a lot a people can't seem to understand what it's like on the other side.

While on duty one night I pulled a guy over for having a tiallight out. My plan was to tell him, let him go get it fixed. Well he decided to come out of the car with a shotgun in his hand (remember this was on a military base).

I asked him to put it down three times, the fourth time he raised it, he got a .38 in the shoulder (I missed his chest). Turns out the damn thing was empty, he was drunk. One question I get is "do you feel guilty?"....No

Never try to be an "Monday morning quarterback" until you've been there. Yes, there are those who go over the line but bet you that is less than 5%.

I look at it as being more of a safety net for the public. The public has in the pat gotten in the way and made it more dangerous for everybody. This also happens in the EMS field (I spent 25 years on the street), the general public has no idea what is going on, act like idiots, and impeed the workers.

This is one of my hot buttons.

So sorry Graveman you have to sleep on the floor.

 Your right, that didn't come out like it should have. Last time I slept on the floor was when I got back from the 1st Gulf War, just couldn't stand a soft bed.

Personally, I don't think GramaG really has a problem. She's probably been married a long time and has many years experience introducing things she's bought to her hubby. My uncle always said females are endowed with "womanly wiles" which means they are adept at getting their way. She probably introduced this subject to see what kind of responses she'd get. Just a thought.

I don't really think she has a problem either, but there a sure some people here who take things waaaay too serious here. Anything big we discuss, other than that it's whatever we want to do. I don't complain about her shoes or kitchen equipment and she doesn't complain about my camera stuff or my books. Just as long as I don't collect younger females like her last husband did.

Looks about right. The dog sleeps on the floor next to me, 1 cat down by my feet, while another cat likes to sleep on her head.

That might work, I have "tons" of coffee mugs! I'll just line them all up on the counter and the lens will blend right in!

:D I collect coffee mugs from places we go. She used to grip a bit "Why buy those, you'll never use them" I just point to her antique dishes and ask her when was the last time we used those.

Mine doesn't pay much attention to what I buy. Her only rule is "Bills come first" No problem. If she gets snippy about something I bought I just remind her that out of twelve feet of closet space, I've got under three, not to mention the shoes I trip over (I swear, she must have more feet than what shows).

Besides, we've got a camper in the back that is a good place to go!
