I have am in the market to replace my aging Canon 40D. I have been looking at the stores and spending considerable time with Youtube. It seems to me that all I hear and watch about different cameras are that most of the time they are hawking the great video capabilities of the cameras and do not spend much time speaking to the still shooting attributes of these same cameras. I do understand that video is important for these cameras but since I will be using my camera for mainly still photography it is frustrating to me to hear mainly about video.

I have read considerably and have watched countless Youtube videos about the differences between Nikon 610 and Canon 6D. I really like the 610 but I currently have a Canon 40D with three halfway decent lenses. I don't think that you can use Canon lenses on a Nikon even with an adapter. Even if I go with the Canon 6D full frame the DX lenses will not work that well. Should I just continue to use the Canon lenses on my 40D and commit my future purchases to the Nikon 610?

According to the latest Consumer Reports for October 2014 the number one rated fixed lens Point and Shoot camera is the Canon PowerShot GL X Mark II. This Canon lacks a viewfinder and its zoom lens is not very long (5X optical), from 24mm to 120mm (about $800). The report says that if you want the second highest rated fix lens camera go with a Sony Cyper-Shot DSC -RX10 with an electronic viewfinder and a 8.3xzoom lens and a constant f/2.8 aperature throughout the range of the zoom (about $1,000) and 50% heavier than the Canon.
