The previous question about memory card speed prompted me to check. What I learned is that I do not understand the symbols and script on the card?

The things of importance are the size and read and write speeds.

Unless you upgrade cameras frequently go to your manual and find the read and write speeds for the camera and match the card to it.

No point in paying for size and speeds that the camera can't use.

I have the 14-24 and the 24-70 both in the 2.8 version but, for some reason, I feel I would like/need the prime Sigma 24 ART series lens in the 1.4 version. Can this be justified or am I out of control with GAS?
I have the 50mm ART lens and love it but 50mm is the most boring focal length known to man. This is for a FF Nikon.

You are out of control! :-)

That's an incredible computer. Where are you ordering it from? Did they help you with the specs or are you super knowledgeable and specified all the details yourself? I'd like to get a similar machine.

This is my second computer from CyberpowerPC.com. They are located in California.

I ordered my first one from them about 3 years ago. Not one single issue all this time. It will replace my HP in the basement which crapped out recently (my fault).

No I'm not super knowledgeable but I know enough to get by. I've been using computers ever since the Commodore Vic came out.

Never liked Macs because of the expense.

I spec'd it myself but I'm sure they can help you. The options are mind boggling.

I'm a Kwannon (Canon) owner with multiple Canon bodies and lenses. However, someone just gave me about a bushel of used Nikon lenses and bodies (a older friend of mine passed on), so I decided to look over the lenses. There are not modern lenses (43-66, 200, etc.), and most have the pin-type system on top of the barrel of the lens. It's pretty clear they will be manual focus only, which is fine, but coupling the aperture, etc., would be nice.

Film is out since I've gone digital. Is there a Nikon digital body (preferably available at a reasonable price; used is fine) that will allow me to use the manual Nikon lenses while retaining a modicum of their flexibility?

Well, sure, I'd love to have $12,000-$17,000 to spend on a super zoom, but I don't. For the $1,400 cost on the 200-500mm, I find it to be sufficiently built to do what I want to do. I am especially impressed with its vibration reduction. It just works. Here's a sample. Hand-held shot of a group of baby gators.

Can of worms time. I am looking at getting a computer for my personal use....one not associated with the company I work for. In that I've decided to dip my feet into the pol of pp, I'd like to know if there is an advantage to getting a Mac or Windows based computer assuming set up is comparable. Also, what type of monitor if windows based? Also, do I need to calibrate the monitor and if so, how? I've searched through the various topics on UHH but can't find anything definitive. Note: I will still be using the computer for email, Internet, etc. if that makes any difference. Please respond based on personal experiences. Last note: I have an IPhone 6 and and IPad2 Retina display. Should that dictate my decision in anyway?

Thanks n advance.

They are comparable if configured similarly.

The number of pixels is not related to the crop ratio. That is determined by the physical size of the sensor in relation to 35mm full frame. This illustrates that relationship.

Of course it is.

Here is the formula:

Total Sensor MP divided by the square of the crop factor.

example: 20(MP)/1.3 squared=11.8MP

How is the 1.3 crop of the new Nikon D500 camera accomplished? Is it done in software, or is there optics?

Alan

In my opinion unless the camera provides an increase in frame rate (fps) when shooting in the crop mode, there is no advantage in doing this.

Its the same as cropping but not as flexible since the view is fixed.

I don't believe the fps increases in the crop mode on the D500.

Hi,

I am planning to got for an external flash light.

Which one should I go for?

SB800 / SB900 or SB 910. I do not know whether 800 or 900 will be available or not in India.

Shahid

The SB800 with the extra battery holder is my favorite because of its lower center of gravity, recycle time and power.

What I don't like about it is it is loose in the hot shoe (but holds securely).

I have two and also a SB900.

"To install View NX-I, View NX2 needs to be installed."
I have a new pc...did the win 10update...then installed NX-i...no problems at all running it. I gave up Capture because Nikon doesn't support it anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion; been there done that.

Had View NX2 installed. View NX-i runs ok on my win10 home machine. You probably are not running win 10 pro.

Presently I have both NX2 and NX-I installed but NX-I will not open. NX2 runs OK.

Capture NX2 and NX-D work ok too.

I have tried every combination, bought and used a registry cleaner, manually cleaned the registry, loaded and uninstalled and reinstalled each Nikon program many times, consulted Nikon (they gave up), followed all reasonable suggestions... all to no avail.

The trouble shooter says the program is not compatible.

I have one option left. I'm having a new custom Win 10 Pro computer on order (unrelated to this problem) which will be delivered in about 8-10 days. Will do a clean install of my programs, including View NX-I and if it doesn't work will conclude it is not compatible and give up.
