I have a canon 70d camera and was wondering what metering should i use in taking images of birds on a perch or not in flight. I always use evaluative metering, but what if any is the advantage of spot metering. Thanks!! I guess it probably depends on the light situation.

Spot meter is a better choice in my opinion. I use it in all lighting conditions when shooting birds.

Those are sharp and well lit. Did you use fill flash?

NS

Yes I almost always use fill flash when shooting birds. I used a SB800 with a Better Beamer.

Thanks for your comments.

We think we have a coyote or fox traveling through our yard. Any camera suggestions for capturing night videos/pics?
Thank you.

A field camera will do the trick for about $100. Keep in mind the night scenes with be in infrared B&W. Day time shot quality will be marginal but you will get your images without much effort or expense.

Considering this lens for a variety of purposes...mostly for star photography...any experience or opinions?

Thanks in advance. Will use a d810 or d7100.

I have the Samyang version and like it very much.

Even though its manual focus the DOF is so great at most distance just about everything is in focus with out trying.

I use it on a D810.

I've removed my battery grips from both my cameras. I have found them to be completely unnecessary and in some cases such as tripod use they can be more bother than they are worth. Plus there is also the extra weight if you are doing any great hiking. Sure, it is nice to have the extra battery power but you can have that by just sticking an extra battery in your pocket, too.
Use the money to buy extra cards and batteries instead.

I could not agree more.

I went the battery grip route with several past cameras. An extra battery in the pocket is far more advantageous.
