Maybe a female?

Perhaps. Hard to tell at this stage. I think the chest markings are less prominent.

This time of the year is great for bird photography.

Bare trees provide unobstructed views. Few if any bugs to bother you. Limited natural food available so feeder attraction is at its peak.

Mild temps and a natural desire to get out of the house after a long Winter.

If heaven isn't as good I don't want to go.

You have used a bass rod made of aluminum?

They have been made of metal in the distant past, not sure what type. I'm pretty old but not ancient.

I just offered food for thought in the previous post.

I'll grant you that the specific gravity of carbon fibers is less than aluminum.

Tripods made from each material to the same cross section dimensions might perform as well but would weigh differently. The material is just one factor.

The Canon and Nikon Glass is always going to be better than their Sigma or Tamron counterparts.

It depends.

Any of the third party lens brands can create an excellent computer generated lens design and even get a top notch lens manufacturer to make it.

Where they tend to fall short is interfacing with the camera. As previously stated camera algorithms are mostly proprietary and guarded fiercely by the big brands.

Consequently complete compatibility and some functions tend to suffer.

Compromises to get lower cost can also affect the lens' performance. Slower auto focus is one thing that is usually noticed.

On the plus side, excellent reverse engineering sometimes results in improvements or eliminations of sub-par performance characteristics.

In the $400-$500 price range (Thinking Feisol CT-3441T for carbon fiber & Sirui W-2004 for aluminum as examples), what are the pros/cons of both materials?
1. Weight: I get this.
2. Cost: I get this.
3. Vibrations: Some say carbon fiber does a better job of dampening "bad vibrations". Others say this is not significant.
4. Durability: Is carbon fiber more likely to be functionally damaged during airline & in-the-field travel than aluminum?
5. Anything else that should be considered?
I value the opinions of Ugly Hedgehoggers...other than those who put down questioners for asking questions.

I have both and don't know if there is a significant difference.

I am also a bass fisherman and fishers know carbon fiber in rods transmit vibration better than other materials.

So why is it less prone to vibration in pods. Who is being hyped; the fishers or the photographers?

I currently have a Sigma 150-500mm F/5.0-6.3. I use it mostly from 400-500mm which means I really struggle for light. I am wondering if I would be happier with a different lens. Here are my thoughts.

Canon 400mm F/5.6 ... a little extra light at 400mm and it's a prime lens so it will be sharper. BUT .. and this is a big butt for me .. no IS. :-(

Canon 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L. I've got the same light upgrade basically depending on the focal length that 4.5 turns into 5.6. It's an L lens, so it's going to be a nice sharp lens. It does have IS.

Sigma 150-600mm F/5.0-6.3. I don't gain anything here, but some guy on DP Review said he heard it was sharper than the canon 100-400mm. Is that true? This does have OS, but as it is I am struggling to get those motion shots sharp at 500mm .. I'd really be in trouble with 600mm.

Had the 400 5.6 and it was impressive. If budget is an issue this is the lens. You'll be using fast shutters mostly anyway.

The new 100-400 is the lens to get if money is not tight.

The Sigma and Tamron tele zooms get you in the game but just barely.

Over the years KEH has been my go to used camera gear store. Recently bought two lenses.

Never a disappointment.
