Large dogs in general have a shorter lifespan. For instance, the Bernese Mountain dog has an average life of seven years, I lost my male at five years. While the big dogs are not as ferocious as small ones (think Chihuahua) they are usually as loving as they are big.

A-w-w-w. I didn't realize that breed had such a short lifespan.

I'm glad you were able to catch the problem in time. I tend to try to rationalize everything, and while I miss him, I try to look at the five GOOD years with him.

Not at all. I love hearing about your experience with them. In Shanghai, it is very similar weather conditions to Alabama or Arizona (except we have humidity in the 80-90%, similar to Alabama) and temperatures of about 100 at the hottest, so he sheds a lot, too. Fortunately, we have an underground parking garage, so when it gets that hot, we can walk him there and it is pretty cool. Am also very sorry to read about your dog passing as well. Unfortunately, they are like many larger dogs and have a shorter life span. Bernies average 7 years, which is pretty short. Ours was in the vet hospital last week for surgery. I found blood in his urine and come to find out that his prostrate was very swollen and he had cysts on his bladder. So bad that it was impacting his bowels. If we had waited much longer he would have had major problems. Surgery fixed it though and he is as good as ever now. Again, very sorry for your loss.

"Bernies" are the sweetest most loving dogs I have ever encountered. We had two, Bonnie and Clyde. Sadly, Clyde died suddenly a couple of months ago and Bonnie mourned for almost a month.
As you say, they are very smart and protective. We live in the country so never leash trained them. Then we tried to take them for a walk. It's very hard to control a dog who is capable of pulling 1200 pounds!

I hope I'm not hijacking your post, but Bernese are the absolute best. (except in the summer in Arizona where they shed enough every day to knit a new dog!)

Because my grandchildren are prudes, as are my neighbors, I don't hang nudes of any kind on my wall. BUT when I shoot with a model I generally go through to see what images are good and stand on their own. Often, I will try converting to monochrome, crop in many different ways and so forth. I then "play" with different software or filters to see if there is another, artistic way of doing the image. I have also saved a couple of mediocre images in post processing.

I have many examples of stupidity, but I don't do "selfies"!

So, she says, "I'll ignore the sign that says, stay back, and saunter down here, wearing my flip flops and park my butt on that tiny, slippery rock, fifteen feet above the rushing river and start texting my friends."

It reminds me of the sign, right in the middle of the crest of Vernal Falls in Yosemite NP, that says, "stay back, if you go over the falls, you will die." There have been many who thought to prove the sign false, only to take a plunge and not live to tell about it.

If you have any of your own examples of stupidity, please post them here so we can all have a good chuckle.

I had an 8008 also, and I gave it to my daughter. As you said, it had no soul. I have a pair of N90s's, and they are a whole different breed than the 8008.

Sorry to hear that.
I loved my 85 1.8.
It was beat to hell, but still one of my favorite lenses, along with my 35mm f/2.
Mine was stolen as well.
My 8008 was taken along with it, but I never liked that camera.
It had no soul.

I knew there was a bunch of old guys on this forum, but I never realized how much we have in common. I, too, have had cameras stolen. I lost my Ftn along with the 50mm, 85mm f1.8, and a 200mm f4 to my daughter's drug addict boyfriend. I figured it was a small price to pay to get rid of him forever, however, I really miss the 85mm!

I did at one time, but I had forgotten all about it and I don't have a clue what has become of it.
After seeing rmalarz' battle scarred Ftn, I know why I didn't get the black. Also, I used the Fs the Air Force issued me, including one with the 100 ft magazine motor drive. That was quite a beast.

Most everyone knows what the iconic Nikon F looks like, and many know its history. But I have always wondered how many were aware that Nikon made a clip-on, but coupled light meter for the F. It clips on to the name plate, and couples with the shutter speed dial. This is one purpose for the raised pin on the dial.
This is my First Nikon. Serial number indicates it was made in 1960, as was the lens. The 58mm f1.4 was only made for a short time, when it was changed to the 50mm. This camera has served me well, and that's the original strap! A year at Brook's, two years in South East Asia...supported my family while I was in college, and off and on through out the years. Today, it's semi-retired.
I don't know if there is any collector's value to it, but it's not for sale, anyway.
If you want to forgive the softness of the focus, you may. Slow shutter speed and old age.

Here's one more of Callie that I ran through Dynamic Auto Paint. I don't know whether to feel guilty or not, I got the free trial about six months ago, and it still works, so I still use it.
